Removing
Note.
- Do not start any work related to the dismantling of the cylinder head until the engine has cooled below 35°C.
- Rotate the crankshaft to move all pistons away from top dead center (TDC).
1. Remove the timing chain housing (more, see relevant section in this chapter).
2. Remove the camshaft drive sprockets (more, see relevant section in this chapter).
3. Remove intake manifold assembly (for details, see the relevant section in chapter Intake and exhaust system).
4. Remove the fuel rail assembly with fuel injectors (for details, see the relevant section in chapter Engine power and control system).
5. To disconnect from a head of the block of cylinders all hoses, tubes and branch pipes.
6. Unscrew the fastening nuts and remove the exhaust manifold assembly (for details, see the relevant section in chapter Intake and exhaust system).
7. Remove the cylinder head cover assembly.
8. Unscrew the cylinder head bolts in two steps in the sequence shown in the figure below.
9. Carefully remove the block head from the cylinder block.
Note. Do not place the cylinder head with the combustion chambers on hard surfaces.
Installation
Note. The pistons must not be at TDC.
Attention. Wear protective gloves and goggles before starting work.
1. Using a special solvent, remove the remnants of the old sealant from the surface of the connector of the block head and cylinder block.
Note.
- Always replace the cylinder head bolts after disassembly.
- Avoid getting engine oil or coolant into the holes for the cylinder head bolts.
- A new cylinder head gasket must be removed from the packaging immediately before being installed on the cylinder block.
- With the cylinder head gasket, you must be extremely careful. as any damage to it can lead to leaks.
2. Check and make sure that all guide bushings of the cylinder head are installed in the cylinder block.
3. Place a new cylinder head gasket on the cylinder block.
4. Install the cylinder head carefully on the block.
5. Insert the cylinder head bolts into the holes, after applying a thin layer of engine oil to their threaded part.
6. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in three steps in the sequence shown in the figure below.
- First approach: 30 Nm.
- Second approach: turn 90°.
- Third approach: once again tighten by an angle of 90°.
7. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
