RKPP
Note: Reverse gear must be engaged when the vehicle is stationary.
The shift lever is located on the center console (27 in illustration 12.1). The scheme of lever positions corresponding to manual transmission gears is indicated on the lever handle. To change gear, fully depress the clutch pedal, move the lever to the desired position and slowly release the pedal. To engage reverse gear, bring the vehicle to a complete stop, depress the clutch pedal, place the shift lever in neutral, push it down and. without releasing, move it to the position "R". To avoid damage and premature wear of parts, do not keep your hand on the shift lever while the engine is running for longer than necessary to change gear. Also, do not hold the vehicle on a roll-off slope by slipping the clutch.
DSG
The models in question can be equipped with a 6- or 7-speed robotic transmission with two clutches (DSG), allowing you to shift gears without interrupting the flow of power. The DSG is electronically controlled, automatically shifts forward gears, and also allows you to select gears in manual mode. The DSG mode selector lever is located at the bottom of the center console, between the front seats (27 in illustration 12.1). Shift paddles on the back of the steering wheel can be used for manual shifting (see illustration 23.1). For more information on how the DSG works, see Chapter 7.
The correct functioning of the DSG is constantly monitored and, in the event of a malfunction or overheating, a corresponding message is displayed on the display in the instrument cluster (see Section 13).
The DSG selector lever can be set to one of the following positions (DSG operating modes): "R", "R", "N", "D", "S", "+" and to move the selector lever out of position "R", the ignition must be on, the brake pedal must be depressed, and the button located on the side of the selector lever handle must be pressed. This button must also be pressed each time the following movements of the selector lever are made: "N" -> "R", "R" -> "R", "R" -> "R" And "D" -> "S". The selector lever is locked if, with the brake pedal released and at a speed of less than 5 km / h, it remains in position "N" more than two seconds (to remove the lever from "N" depress the brake pedal). While moving the lever quickly between positions "R" And "D" lock in position "N" does not work, making it possible to drive out of the mud or snow "swinging".
To remind the driver to depress the brake pedal to move the lever out of position "R" or "N" the green control lamp O in the instrument cluster lights up (see Section 13).
When stopping on a slope, when the selector lever is in the driving position, do not keep the car from rolling with the gas pedal, because. this can lead to overheating and damage to the transmission. Instead, keep the brake pedal depressed. Overheating may also occur when using the "uphill", when the vehicle is stationary or moving slowly uphill. In case of overheating, overload protection is activated, and red K / L lights up in the instrument cluster "F" (see Section 13). In this case, stop the car, turn off the engine and wait until the K / L and the indicator go out and the warning text disappears. After that, you can continue moving.
Before moving the selector lever, depress the brake pedal to avoid the possibility of a sharp jerk of the car when the gear is engaged.
Note: A cold engine will run at high idle after starting, which can cause the vehicle to move slowly when the forward or reverse mode is engaged. A description of the DSG operating modes is given below.
DSG in both automatic and manual mode, has the function "Kickdown" - downshifting by one or more steps with the gas pedal fully depressed (through the point of resistance). This feature is used to provide maximum acceleration (for example, when overtaking) and thrust (e.g. when going uphill). After this, upshifts will occur when the maximum speed is reached, unless the gas pedal is released before this moment. Release the gas pedal to return to normal operation.
Caution: When downshifting on slippery roads, there is a risk of skidding.
DSG operating modes
The display in the instrument cluster shows the current position of the DSG mode selector lever, and in forward driving modes (D and S) additional indicates the current transmission.
"R" (parking). In this position, the DSG is locked and the drive wheels cannot turn. A special separate mechanism is used for blocking. Before moving the selector lever to this position, stop the vehicle completely and press the release button on the lever handle; When parking on a slope, be sure to apply the parking brake first.
Attention: Moving the selector lever to the position "R" while the vehicle is moving, will cause the wheels to lock up and cause the vehicle to lose control of the vehicle, as well as damage the transmission. Don't take advantage of the position "R" instead of the parking brake, they must be used together. When the brake pedal is released, the vehicle at a standstill with the "R" the selector lever can move a few centimeters forward or backward if the parking brake is not engaged.
"R" (Reversing). This selector lever position is used to engage reverse gear. To turn on the mode "R" from modes "R" or "N", it is necessary to press the button on the handle of the selector lever with the brake pedal depressed.
Caution: To avoid damage to the transmission, make sure the vehicle is at a complete stop before engaging reverse gear. After turning on the mode "R" wait for the transmission to engage (you can feel it in the engine). With the ignition on in the mode "R" reversing lights are on.
"N" (neutral position). The wheels and transmission are not blocked, the car can be moved freely. Engine torque is not transmitted to the wheels. If the selector lever is accidentally moved to the position while driving "N", you should release the gas pedal and before switching the lever to the mode "D" wait for the engine speed to drop. At a speed of less than 5 km / h and the ignition on, to remove the selector lever from the position "N" you need to depress the brake pedal. When coasting for a long time, the transmission may be damaged due to lack of lubrication.
"D" (Movement). The normal position of the selector lever when the car is moving forward can only be selected at idle speed of the crankshaft. The DSG shifts between all forward gears based on the optimum balance of power and fuel economy. If in this mode you press one of the paddle switches behind the steering wheel (see illustration 23.1), there is a temporary transition to manual gearshift mode. Temporary manual control mode will automatically turn off if the paddle switches are not operated for some time; in addition, this mode can be turned off manually by holding one of the paddle switches for more than one second.
Note: To increase the efficiency of the DSG and reduce wear on its components, high gears will not be engaged until the transmission fluid has warmed up to normal operating temperature. For optimum efficiency, gear selection takes into account outdoor temperature, road gradient, vehicle load and driver commands.
"S" (sports mode). In sports mode, the gearshift is the same as in "D", occurs automatically, but at higher engine speeds in order to fully realize its power. To move the selector lever from "D" V "S" press the button on the handlebar. From the sport mode, you can temporarily turn on the manual shift mode (same as from mode "D", see above).
"+" And (manual mode) When moving the selector lever from the position "D" to the right, the transmission switches to manual control mode and operates in the previous gear until critical engine speed is reached or another gear is manually engaged. With a subsequent brief push of the lever to the position "+" or DSG upshifts/downshifts. It is also possible to shift gears with skipping intermediate gears - to do this, successively push the lever to the appropriate position at short intervals.
Note: Do not hold the selector lever in the "+" or continuously.
In manual mode, gear shifting can also be done via paddle shifters behind the steering wheel (see illustration 23.1). At excessively low or high crankshaft speeds, the DSG will automatically downshift or overdrive. The selected gear is switched on only when the corresponding vehicle speed and crankshaft speed are reached.
Emergency situations
If a malfunction occurs in the DSG electronics, it continues to work, but switches to one of the emergency programs. Such a program announces itself by turning on and off all segments of the instrument cluster display. In the event of a malfunction, only some gears may be engaged, it may not be possible to use reverse gear or manual gear shifting.
When the lever cannot be moved out of position "R" subject to the removal of all the locks described above (for example, in the event of a discharge of the battery or a malfunction of the electrical equipment of the car), the lock can be released manually. For this:
- 1 - cock the parking brake;
- 2 - pry off the lever cover in places (And in illustration 23.2) and carefully lift it up and then separate the trim from the center console on the other side;
- 3 - press with your finger on the yellow plastic part in the direction of the arrow (IN);
- 4 - at the same time press the release button on the selector lever handle and move it to the position "N".
