Transmission oil change (Skoda Felicia)

1. Changing the transmission oil is much faster and easier if you first take the car for a short drive, warming up the power unit to normal operating temperature.

2. Park the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface, if possible with a hard surface, and firmly engage the parking brake. To ensure access, the vehicle can be jacked up or driven onto an overpass/inspection pit (remember to keep it in a horizontal position).

3. Carefully wipe the upper part of the manual transmission housing in the area where the speedometer drive assembly is installed.

4. Remove the bolt, remove the mounting plate and remove the speedometer drive assembly from the crankcase (see section Checking the transmission oil level). Check the condition of the assembly sealing ring, replace if necessary.

5. Wipe the area around the drain plug located at the base of the crankcase, directly under the inner CV joint of the left drive shaft. Place a collecting container under the drain hole and unscrew the plug.

6. Allow the oil to drain into a drain pan. If the engine has been preheated, be careful not to burn yourself. Wipe the drain plug thoroughly, removing any fine metal filings from the magnetic insert. Prepare a new sealing washer.

7. When the oil stops leaking, clean the drain plug threads and the corresponding thread in the crankcase hole. Put on a new sealing washer, then screw in the plug and tighten it to the required torque.

8. Filling the transmission oil takes a lot of time and requires certain skills. Remember that the car must be installed strictly horizontally.

9. Oil is poured through the hole in the crankcase for installing the speedometer drive assembly. After pouring the required amount of oil of the required grade into the gearbox as specified in the Specifications, check its level (see section Checking the transmission oil level. If necessary, make adjustments by adding oil or pumping out excess oil. Reinstall the speedometer drive assembly, then drive the car for a short time to distribute fresh oil over the surfaces of the internal transmission components. Then recheck the oil level.
