Checking the exhaust system components (Skoda Felicia)

1. When the engine is cold (at least an hour after it was turned off) carefully inspect the system sections from the engine exhaust manifold to the end of the exhaust pipe. For convenience, the car should be raised above the ground or driven onto an inspection pit/overpass.

2. Check the section pipes and their joints for signs of exhaust gas leaks, corrosion development and mechanical damage. Assess the condition of the support brackets and the reliability of the fastener tightening. Leaks usually appear as a sooty coating in the area of the leak.


3. A rumble and metallic grinding while driving are often associated with failure of brackets or slipping of rubber hangers of the exhaust system supports. To check the reliability of the section fixation, tug on the pipes and mufflers. If there is contact between the system components and body or suspension elements, replace the worn parts of the supports and hangers, or disconnect the sections and adjust their position, ensuring sufficient clearance between the components.
