2. A quick check of the residual thickness of the friction linings of the shoes can be made through the hole in the brake mechanism shield - if equipped, remove the rubber bushing from the hole. The thickness of the lining is assessed by pressing a rod with a diameter equal to the minimum permissible thickness of the lining to its side surface. If necessary, use a flashlight. If the wear of the lining of at least one of the shoes is below the permissible limit, all four shoes are subject to replacement (on both rear brake mechanisms).

3. For a more detailed check of the brake components (see Chapter Brake system) the drum should be removed and cleaned.
