1. The condition of the auxiliary drive belt can be checked visually. You should pay attention to the presence of abrasions, cracks, delaminations, etc. Defects. To inspect the ribbed side of the belt, twist it.
2. In order to provide better access to the belt, jack up the right front corner of the car, then unscrew the screws that secure the metal cover covering the belt.
3. To inspect the belt along its entire length, turn the crankshaft by the bolt of its pulley.
4. In case of defects, the belt must be replaced (see chapter Engine repair).
5. On 1.6L models (and 1.3 l models equipped with A/C) The belt is equipped with an automatic tensioner, and therefore does not need to be adjusted.
6. On 1.3 l models without K / V, checking the belt tension can be done by pressing it in the area in the middle between the generator and water pump pulleys. When firmly pressed with the thumb, the belt deflection should be between 10 mm and 15 mm. Otherwise, you need to correct (see chapter Engine repair).
7. Finally, if removed, replace the belt cover, then lower the vehicle to the ground.
