Removal



1. Drain the coolant into a prepared container (for more details, see the relevant section in this chapter).

2. Remove the air filter housing (for more details, see the relevant section in the chapter "Intake and exhaust system").

3. Release the wiring harnesses (1) and (2) from the clips on the air duct pipe, as shown in the figure below.

4. Release the fastening clamp (3) shown in the figure below.

5. Unscrew the fastening screws (arrows) and remove the air duct pipe downwards.

6. Loosen the clamp (arrow) shown in the figure below and disconnect the air hose (1) from the charge air cooler.

7. Unscrew the fastening screws (arrow) on the right and left sides, as shown in the figure below.

10. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (1) from the engine oil pressure sensor as shown in the figure below.

11. Unscrew the mounting screws (arrows) and remove the protective cover of the water pump toothed drive belt, as shown in the figure below.

Caution: Be careful not to damage the drive pinion mounting bolt, as it has a left-hand thread.




12. Secure the drive gears (1) from rotating by squeezing the drive belt (2). Then, unscrew the drive gear mounting bolt using a special key (VAG 1331) and a socket (T10360), as shown in the figure below.

13. Remove the drive belt (2) of the water pump.

Installation



Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Replace the balance shaft gear mounting bolt.

Fill the cooling system with coolant.
