Skoda Octavia cars are alternatively equipped with engines manufactured by the VW concern (Volkswagen). The following engines are installed on the Octavia:
- AEE 1.6–55 kW petrol;
- AGN 1.8–92 kW petrol;
- AGR 1.9 TDI–66 kW diesel.
These engines will be described in the following chapters. They are mainly in-line, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-cylinder engines with ONS valve timing (or 2 x ONS – 1.8–92 kW engine), with automatic valve clearance limitation and with a crankshaft mounted in five cast-iron bearings. The engines are mounted at the front of the vehicle, transversely, in front of the front suspension. The petrol engines mentioned have injectors and an electronically controlled ignition system, the exhaust is cleaned in an exhaust gas catalytic converter. The diesel engines also have electronic fuel injection control and an oxidation catalytic converter on the exhaust. The engines are mostly manufactured in several equipment variants. For completeness, it should be added that some engine types are supplied to Škoda as complete engines (AGN 1.8–92 kW), while others, such as AEE 1.6–55 kW, are supplied as incomplete engines (Rumpfmotor). These sub-kits consist of an engine block assembly with a crank mechanism (crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons assembly), with an assembled cylinder head with a cover and crankcase. At the Škoda – AO Automobile Plant plant, these engines are completed with parts, some of which are manufactured at the plant itself, and some are supplied by specialized suppliers. The AGR 1.9 TDI–66 kW engines are currently supplied as complete units, but they will also gradually be converted to sub-assemblies and completed in Mladá Bolislav.
Engine 1.6-55 kW (AEE)
One of the engines installed on Skoda cars of the Octavia series is the 1.6 MP1 engine (Multi Point Injection multipoint injection) 55 kW. This is a gasoline in-line four-stroke four-cylinder engine with liquid cooling with a valve timing mechanism of the ONS and two valves on each cylinder. The engine is located in the front of the car, transversely in front of the front suspension with a slope of 15 forward. The ratio of stroke length / piston diameter = 1.14 has a positive effect on the torque even at low speeds. An aluminum alloy cylinder head is installed on the cast iron block. The fuel and ignition systems from Magneti Marelli are controlled by an electronic unit.
The engine is produced in two versions:
- basic execution;
- with equipment that allows for the installation of air conditioning.
Each variant uses a different accessory holder.
Information on the types of alternating current generators, their power, as well as the types of engine starters are given in the relevant chapters.
The alternator belt pulley is driven from the outer crankshaft pulley (with radial grooves) multi-groove belt.

In both versions, both with and without air conditioning, there is a tension roller, the clamping force of which is set automatically - the spring acts constantly. The difference between the version with and without air conditioning is in the belt route (see Fig. Route of the multi-groove belt of the 1.6-55 kW (AEE) engine).
