The climate system is a heating and ventilation system with air cooling function. System "Climatronic" allows you to adjust the temperature separately for the driver and front passenger.
To control the climate system, the keys and handles are located on the panel in the center console (see illustrations 14.1a-b). If a vehicle with a system "Climatronic" fitted ex factory with 4 audio/navigation systems with graphic display, climate control messages are shown briefly on the audio/navigation display. Temperature units and displayed information can be changed via the menu "Settings" display in the instrument cluster (see Section 13).

Air is sucked in by the fan through the windshield fairing grille and enters the passenger compartment through the cabin filter and, if the cooling function is on, through the evaporator (cooling and dehumidification), and if the heater is on, through its radiator (air heating). Keep the windshield fairing grille clear of snow, leaves, and other debris, and replace the cabin air filter periodically (see chapter 1), to achieve maximum ventilation efficiency from the climate system.
Note: The cabin air filter prevents potentially hazardous airborne particles from entering the cabin (e.g. pollen, road dust, industrial emissions). An activated carbon cabin filter additionally removes unpleasant odors. Air passing through the entire interior exits through slots in the luggage compartment trim and outlets behind the rear bumper trim.
To adjust the intensity of the air supply, use the fan speed controller (2 in Figure 14.1a or 10 in Figure 14.1b). The fan should not be turned off for a long time, as in this case, the climate system will not work: fresh air will not enter the cabin, which will lead to rapid fatigue. To turn off the system "Climatronic" intended key "OFF", and to turn on the automatic mode of operation - the key "AUTO". The first time you press the key "AUTO" the mode turns on "AUTO High" (high fan speed, the right indicator in the key is on), and when pressed again, the mode is activated "AUTO Low" (low fan speed, the left indicator in the key is on).
On models with a sunroof cover in which solar panels are built-in, if the level of illumination is sufficiently high, after the ignition is turned off with the sunroof closed, the supply ventilation automatically switches to solar mode.
On models with "Climatronic" in automatic control mode (the left or right indicator in the key is lit "AUTO") it is enough to set the desired temperature, and the climate system will set it and maintain it, automatically adjusting the intensity and direction of air supply, as well as turning on / off the refrigeration unit. The most comfortable temperature is 22°C. When manually adjusting the direction of air flow or fan speed, the corresponding function is no longer automatically controlled until the automatic mode is switched on again.
The choice of the main directions of air supply is made by means of the rotary switch (In illustration 14.1a) or keys (1-4 in illustration 14.1b):
or - air is directed to the windshield (to remove frost or condensation). In this mode, on models with a system "Climatic" the refrigeration unit automatically turns on, the air is not supplied to the legs, and the air circulation is automatically turned off (if it was enabled; after automatic shutdown, you can turn on the circulation manually).
- function of intensive removal of frost / condensate from the windshield, available only on models with the system "Climatronic". Air is directed to the windshield.
- air is directed to the windshield and to the legs, on models with the system "Climatronic" absent.
- air is directed at chest level (through adjustable deflectors).
- air goes to the legs.
The rotary switch can be set to intermediate positions, and the keys can be pressed in various combinations.
Deflectors are designed to create a certain direction of air flow. In the upper part of the instrument panel there are non-adjustable wind deflectors and side windows (1 in illustration 14.2a). From under the lower part of the instrument panel, air is supplied to the foot wells (4). In the front of the instrument panel there are adjustable vents for air supply at chest level for the driver and front passenger: two central (3) and two side (2). To adjust the direction of air flow from these deflectors, use the knob on the grate of the corresponding deflector (it can be rotated up/down and left/right), and to adjust the intensity of the air flow from these deflectors, use the regulator next to the corresponding deflector. The adjustable side vents can be used to ventilate the front side windows. Air is supplied to the rear foot wells through deflectors located under the front seats (6in illustration 14.2b). At the rear of the B-pillar trim there are air vents for rear passengers (5), adjustable by analogy with the front adjustable deflectors.
14.2a Direction of air supply from the instrument panel deflectors
14.2b Direction of air supply from the deflectors in the rear
The rotary knob is used to adjust the temperature (And in illustrations 14.1a, or 7 and 14 in illustration 14.1b). On models with "Climatic" temperature values are not indicated on the regulator scale, and the set temperature is not maintained. On all models, extreme left position (blue indicator) corresponds to the maximum cooling capacity, and the extreme right position (red indicator) corresponds to the maximum heating power; in both cases, a certain temperature value is not maintained. On models with "Climatronic" it is possible to set a specific temperature value from 18'C to 26'C separately for the driver and for the front passenger. If the key "DUAL" the indicator is off, the temperature set for the driver's zone (left knob), submachine gunners are also installed for the front passenger area. For separate temperature control, press the button "DUAL" and turn the right temperature knob to the desired position.
Note: The interior air temperature sensor is located under the top row of climate control buttons. In system "Climatronic" an additional sun sensor is used, located on the top of the instrument panel, in front of the windshield. If the cabin temperature is set to a significant difference from the outside temperature, sensitive people may catch a cold.
The intensity of heating depends on the temperature of the engine coolant, so the first minutes after starting the engine, heating may not provide the necessary warming up of the passenger compartment. If necessary, to increase the heating power, you can turn on the autonomous heater by pressing the key (if available, see subsection below).
For the most efficient heating of the cabin, direct warm air to the level of the feet (in humid weather, additional air supply to the windows should also be ensured), and for maximum cooling, set the cold air supply at face level; in both cases it is recommended to use the maximum air supply rate. It is recommended to keep windows and doors closed so that the air heated or cooled by the climate system does not mix with the outside air. It is recommended to open all windows for a while only in the first minutes of using the car, which has been standing in the sun for a long time, in order to vent hot air from the passenger compartment.
The electric heating of the rear and windshield is turned on and off with the keys, respectively "" And "" only when the engine is running. During heating operation (the indicator in the key is on) consumes a lot of power, so to save fuel, it should be turned off as soon as the desired result is achieved. 10 minutes after switching on, the heating switches off automatically. In the event of a voltage drop in the vehicle's on-board electrical system, the heating is automatically switched off in order to provide enough electricity to control the engine.
In all versions, it is possible to switch between circulation mode (outside air is not supplied to the cabin) and ventilation mode (outside air enters the cabin). To switch between the indicated modes, use the key. The glowing indicator in the key indicates the operation in the circulation mode. On models with "Climatronic" additionally, there is an automatic circulation control mode operating on the basis of an air quality sensor: when in the key "' A" the left indicator is on, the constant circulation mode is working, and when the right indicator is on, the automatic circulation control mode is working. Automatic mode works only when the outside air temperature is at least 2°C. You can also use the button to turn off the circulation mode "AUTO".
Circulation mode should be used when driving on dusty roads or in heavy traffic to prevent dust, odors and exhaust gases from entering the passenger compartment. In addition, the circulation mode allows you to significantly accelerate the reduction of the temperature in the passenger compartment when using the air cooling function. However, you should not turn on the air circulation mode for a long time, because. at the same time, the air in the passenger compartment becomes stale, and condensation appears on the windows. Under normal conditions, it is recommended to always turn on the fan and select the fresh air mode. For safety reasons, when some air distribution modes are activated, the fresh air mode is automatically switched on.
The air cooling function only works when the engine is running and the fan is on, when the outside air temperature is above +2°C. To turn on the refrigeration unit, use the key "AU" with built-in indicator. Key indicator "AU" systems "Climatic" lights up even if not all the conditions for switching on the refrigeration unit are met, indicating that it is ready to be switched on. In automatic system mode "Climatronic", the refrigeration unit turns on / off automatically, cooling the air to the set temperature. In addition, it can automatically turn off when the coolant temperature is too high to reduce the load on the engine. When the air cooling function is activated, the air entering the passenger compartment is cooled and dehumidified. This speeds up the removal of condensate from the windows at high humidity. To get the most out of the air-cooling function, close windows and doors when using it.
Note: Moisture taken from the air as it cools condenses and drains out through the drain hose, so it is normal for a puddle under the car after it has been parked with the air-cooling function turned on. A running climate system compressor consumes engine power, which leads to an increase in fuel consumption - turn off the air cooling function if it is not needed.
Note: You should not smoke in the interior of a car with a refrigeration unit when the circulation mode is on, because. the particles of tobacco smoke deposited at the same time on the evaporator of the refrigeration unit and on the cabin filter will spread their smell for a very long time. In addition, the refrigeration unit should be run for at least 5 minutes every month to prevent unpleasant odors from deposits on the evaporator.
