Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect the wires from the back of the generator, noting their location (photo).

3. Remove the alternator drive belt (Section 1).
4. Remove the oil filter (Section 1), placing a suitable container under its adapter to avoid spilling oil. If the filter has been installed for a long time, it must be replaced. It is also recommended to change the engine oil.
5. Unscrew the clamp bolts and generator pivot shaft (photo), and remove the generator from the vehicle.

6. If necessary, the generator bracket can be unscrewed from the cylinder block/crankcase.
7. If the alternator is to be replaced, the pulley must be relocated to the new unit. Clamp the pulley in a vice and unscrew the nut. Remove the pulley. When reassembling, apply a small amount of blocking compound to the pulley mounting nut.
Installation
8. Install in the reverse order of removal, paying attention to the following:
- a) Tighten the generator clamp and pivot bolts, then install the drive belt and adjust its tension (Section 1). Finally, tighten the bolts to the specified tightening torque Specifications.
- b) Connect the generator wiring.
- c) Install the oil filter (see point 4 above).
- d) Fill the engine with oil, or check its level and top it up if necessary (Section 1).
