Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect the wires from the back of the generator, marking their location (photo).
3. Remove the alternator drive belt (Section 1).
4. Remove the oil filter (Section 1), by placing a suitable container under its adapter so as not to spill the oil. If the filter has been installed for a long time, it must be replaced. It is also recommended to change the engine oil.
5. Unscrew the bolts of the clamp and the rotary axis of the generator (photo), and remove the alternator from the vehicle.
6. If required, the generator bracket can be unscrewed from the cylinder block / crankcase.
7. If the generator is to be replaced, the pulley must be moved to a new block. Clamp the pulley in a vise and unscrew the nut. Remove the pulley. When assembling, apply a small amount of blocking compound to the pulley mounting nut.
Installation
8. Install in the reverse order of removal paying attention to the following:
- a) Tighten the bolts of the clamp and the rotary axis of the generator, then install the drive belt and adjust its tension (Section 1). In conclusion, tighten the bolts with a tightening torque regulated specifications.
- b) Connect the generator wiring.
- c) Install oil filter (see point 4 above).
- d) Fill the engine with oil, or check the level and top up if necessary (Section 1).
