General safety rules when working with pyrotechnic modules of airbags, seat belt pretensioners and battery disconnect devices

Caution! Pyrotechnic components contain substances that produce gas when burned. Some versions have additional compressed gas to produce gas. This compressed gas is stored in a gas cylinder under high pressure. The pyrotechnic component is ignited by an electrical/mechanical igniter. Inspection, installation and repair work may only be carried out by trained personnel. There are no replacement intervals for airbag modules. Never check with a test lamp, voltmeter or ohmmeter. Pyrotechnic components may only be checked when installed and using a vehicle diagnostic, measuring and information system certified by the manufacturer. When working on pyrotechnic components and the airbag control unit "J234", the battery ground wire must be disconnected with the ignition on. Then cover the negative terminal. After disconnecting the battery, wait 10 seconds. The battery must be reconnected with the ignition on. In this case, there should be no one in the car. Exception: a car with a battery in the car. In this case, you must not be within the operating range of the airbags and seat belts. After touching the pyrotechnic components of the restraint system that have been activated, wash your hands. Pyrotechnic components must not be opened or repaired; use only new nodes (risk of injury). Damaged pyrotechnic components must not be installed. Do not reinstall pyrotechnic components that have fallen onto a hard surface. Before working on pyrotechnic components of the restraint system, such as disconnecting electrical connectors, the mechanic must discharge his electrostatic charge. The electrostatic charge can be discharged by touching grounded metal parts, such as touching the door retainer with your hand. Pyrotechnic components must be installed immediately after removing them from the transport container. When not in use, place the pyrotechnic components back in the transport container. It is not permissible to leave a pyrotechnic component unattended. Do not treat pyrotechnic components with lubricants, cleaning agents or similar materials. Pyrotechnic components must not be exposed to temperatures above 100°C, even for a short time.

Accident with airbag activation

After an accident with airbag deployment, the following components must be replaced:

The airbag control unit must be replaced after the airbags have been activated; the control unit can be used again, but only up to 3 times in total, if the packaging is damaged, if the tunnel is deformed within a radius of 200 mm around the control unit.

All deployed airbag modules and the battery disconnect device pyropatron must be replaced

Additionally, after the front passenger airbag has been deployed

Front panel, deformed driver airbag module supports (you can't straighten them), all front airbag sensors, other lateral acceleration sensors in case of deformation of the support points near the sensors

Additionally, after the driver's airbag has been deployed

Return ring with contact ring, all front-mounted front airbag sensors, other lateral acceleration sensors in case of deformation of the support points near the sensors.

Additionally, after the side airbag has been deployed

Pressure sensors on the trigger side, lateral acceleration sensors on the trigger side, upholstery, with rear seat backrest folded down: side soft upholstery (if any), other transverse acceleration sensors in case of deformation of the support points near the sensors.

Additionally

Inertia reels of all seat belts with deployed pretensioners, inertia reels of all seat belts with deployed tension limiters (if available), all seat belt buckles with pretensioners deployed when the belts are fastened, height adjustment devices (mechanical and electrical) all seat belts with pretensioners deployed when the belt is fastened.

Inertia reels of all seat belts with deployed…

Note: The tension limiters that have been triggered can be identified by the following signs: Pin "1" and projection "3" have come out of the belt tension limiter housing on the automatic belt rewinder. Tab "2" is no longer vertical, but points outward at an angle.

When removing seat belt components as part of post-accident repairs, be sure to replace their screws. If necessary (after inspection) additionally need to replace: all damaged units. After replacing the airbag modules, stick on labels (only tear-off coupons) on the registration card. Send the card to the importer for registration.

Accident without airbag activation

If the "K75" NPB control lamp does not indicate a malfunction, then replacement of NPB parts is not required. Seat belts should be checked separately.
