1. The brake light switch must be installed so that the lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed 10-15 mm from its original position.
2. To access the switch, remove the lower steering column cover if necessary (Section 10), and peel back the floor carpet/insulating material (see photo 27.1).
3. Disconnect the wires so as not to damage them when turning the switch. Loosen the locknut that secures the switch and move it to a position where the lights come on at the right moment. To do this, either connect the wires and have an assistant check if the brake light is on, or monitor the moment the switch circuit closes with a multimeter. Tighten the locknut securely and connect the wires, then turn on the ignition and check the operation of the brake lights.
4. Install all components removed to gain access.
