7. To check the brake booster, press the brake pedal four or five times, then start the engine. When the engine starts, the pedal should noticeably "give" due to the increase in vacuum. Let the engine run for at least two minutes, then turn it off. If you press the brake pedal again, you should hear a hissing sound from the booster. After about four or five presses, the hissing should stop and the pedal should be pressed much harder.
