Introduction to the Skoda Favorit and Forman (Skoda Favorit)

The Škoda Favorit models described in this Manual were introduced to the market in the summer of 1989. The Favorit model was an example of the Czech manufacturer's departure from the tradition of placing the engine in the rear of the car and the drive to the rear wheels to a new arrangement of components. The engine is installed in the front and the drive from the power unit is transmitted to the front wheels.

The 1,289 cc overhead valve engine is similar to that used in previous Skoda models, but has been modernised. The cylinder head is made of aluminium alloy and is adapted for transverse engine placement and operation on unleaded petrol grades. The 5-speed gearbox is attached to the left side of the engine, and the drive from it is transmitted to the front wheels via drive shafts of unequal length.

The front suspension has MacPherson struts, with springs and telescopic shock absorbers. The rear suspension includes longitudinal arms, a torsion beam, springs and telescopic shock absorbers.

The braking system is a dual-circuit design and has front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.

The models are available with the following body styles: passenger five-door Hatchback and Station Wagon (Forman), as well as cargo Van and Pickup.
