The Skoda Favorit models described in this manual were introduced to the market in the summer of 1989. The Favorit model was the Czech manufacturer's departure from the tradition of placing the engine at the rear of the car and rear-wheel drive to a new arrangement of components. The engine is installed in front and the drive from the power unit is transmitted to the front wheels.
1289 cc engine3 overhead valves similar to those used in previous Skoda models, but it has been redesigned. The cylinder head is made of aluminum alloy and is adapted for the transverse engine and operation on unleaded gasoline grades. The 5-speed gearbox is attached to the left side of the engine and is driven to the front wheels via unequal length drive shafts.
The front suspension has MacPherson struts with coil springs and telescopic dampers. The rear suspension includes trailing arms, torsion beam, coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers.
The brake system is made according to a dual-circuit scheme and has disc front and drum rear brakes.
Models are available with the following body styles: passenger five-door Hatchback and Wagon (Forman), as well as cargo Van and Pickup.
