Note: Before you begin the procedures below, read the warnings in Section Airbag - General information, precautions and deactivation of the system.
Disconnect the negative battery cable (see warning in Section General information and precautions) and wait for at least one minute.
Driver's airbag
Removal

1. Remove the two screws securing the airbag assembly to the rear of the steering wheel (to ensure the best access, turn the steering wheel accordingly).

2. Return the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and carefully remove the airbag assembly from the hub. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the assembly. Try not to hit or shake the assembly, and do not turn it upside down.
Installation
1. Make sure the electrical connector is securely fastened. When installing the assembly in its regular place, try not to allow the wires to be pinched.
2. Insert the mounting screws and tighten them to the required torque.
3. Make sure there is no one in the car, then connect the battery. With the driver's door open, turn on the ignition and make sure the indicator lamp works properly.
Passenger airbag
Removal
1. Carefully release the clips and remove the airbag assembly access cover from the passenger side of the instrument panel.
2. Loosen the airbag assembly mounting nuts and remove the washers. Carefully remove the assembly from its mounting location and disconnect the electrical wiring from it.
3. To remove the assembly support bracket, unscrew the trim panel bracket mounting screws (through the hole in the cover panel), then release the panel base from the clips and remove the section from the instrument panel. Loosen the mounting nuts, remove the washers and remove the support bracket from the engine compartment bulkhead.
Installation
1. If removed, reinstall the support bracket on the engine compartment bulkhead and tighten its mounting nuts to the required torque. Snap the trim panel into place and tighten its mounting screws securely.
2. Connect the wiring, making sure the connector is securely fastened, and place the airbag assembly in its regular place - try not to pinch the wires. Screw on the mounting nuts and tighten them to the required force. Install the airbag assembly access cover on the instrument panel.
3. Make sure there is no one in the car, then connect the battery. With the driver's door open, turn on the ignition and make sure the indicator lamp works properly.
Airbag system control unit
Removal
1. Remove the center console (see section Removal and installation the center console).
2. Remove the radio (see section Removal and installation a car radio), then bend the locking tabs and remove the assembly slide from its socket in the instrument panel. Disconnect the roller bearing antenna and power supply wiring from the slide.
3. Remove the sleeve connecting the base of the heater housing to the rear footwell air duct.

4. Loosen the fastening nuts and remove the footrest installed near the clutch pedal.
5. On right-hand drive models, release the latch in the passenger footwell and remove the trim cover from the left pedal assembly support bracket.

8. Release the lock, disconnect the electrical wiring and remove the control unit from the vehicle.
Installation
1. Connect the wiring and firmly snap the connector lock into place. Mount the control unit to its supports (the arrow on the top plane of the block should point forward along the vehicle). Screw on the mounting nuts and tighten them to the required torque.
2. Install the air hose in place, making sure that it is correctly engaged with the mating components.
3. Fold back the carpet and replace the footrest, tightening its mounting nuts securely.
4. On right-hand drive models, install the trim cover onto the left pedal assembly bracket and secure it with the clip.
5. On all models, install the center console (see section Removal and installation the center console).
6. Connect the electrical wiring and antenna cable to the radio runners. Insert the runners into the instrument panel, making sure that they are securely fixed with the locking tabs. Install the radio in place.

Airbag system contact block
Removal
