Note: Due to the importance of this procedure, it is best to have it performed by a qualified service station mechanic.

1. Bring the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position (see section Bringing the piston of the first cylinder to the top dead center (TDC) position).

2. Unscrew the plug on the fuel injection pump and insert the adapter and the plunger-type dial gauge into the hole. Turn the crankshaft 90° in the direction opposite to normal. Zero the gauge.

1 - Lock nut; 2 - Adjusting screw; 3 - Cable tip; 4 - Lock nut; 5 - Measurement location of the X dimension of the injection timing adjustment

3. Turn the crankshaft in the normal direction until the TDC marks coincide. The gauge should record a value of X + 0.15 mm. The X dimension is indicated on the fuel supply lever of the high-pressure fuel pump.

4. If the measurement result differs from the specified one, loosen the pump flange mounting bolts and turn the latter in the appropriate direction to achieve the required value.

5. Repeat the check.

6. After completing the work, unscrew the adapter and install the plug with a new washer in place.
