Relay box
When checking, the battery must be charged (minimum battery voltage 11.5V).
The relay is located in the relay box inside the instrument panel behind the fuse box. Relay number on cars produced before January 2000 - 15 (see fig. Relay box), release since February 2000 - 4.
1. Remove the lower instrument panel trim on the driver's side (see subsection 11.6).
2. Remove fuse 61 from the fuse box and connect a voltage tester with LED between any fuse terminal and «weight».
3. Turn on the starter, the relay should work (a click is heard), and the LED should light up. If the LED is off and the relay has tripped, connect the indicator to another fuse terminal. If the LED is off again, check for an open in the wire between relay pin 8 and fuse 61.
4. If the relay does not operate when the starter is turned on, connect a voltmeter to relay terminals 2 and 6, then 9 and 6. In both cases, the voltmeter should indicate battery voltage. Otherwise, check the wires for breaks and short circuits.
5. If the voltage is the same as the battery voltage, connect a voltage tester to pins 1 and 2 (or 9), and then to pins 7 and 6. Turn on the starter, if the LED is on in both cases, replace the relay box, if not, repair the open in the wiring.
