Relay block

Relay block

When checking, the battery must be charged (minimum battery voltage 11.5 V).

The relay is installed in the relay box inside the instrument panel behind the fuse box. The relay number for vehicles manufactured before January 2000 is 15 (see the picture Relay block), released since February 2000 – 4.

1. Remove the lower instrument panel trim on the driver's side (see subsection 11.6).

2. Remove fuse 61 from the fuse box and connect a voltage indicator with an LED between any contact of the fuse and ground.

3. Turn on the starter, the relay should operate (a click is heard), and the LED should light up. If the LED does not light and the relay has tripped, connect the indicator to another fuse terminal. If the LED still does not light, check for a break in the wire between contact 8 of the relay and fuse 61.

4. If the relay does not operate when the starter is turned on, connect a voltmeter to contacts 2 and 6 of the relay, then 9 and 6. In both cases, the voltmeter should show the battery voltage. Otherwise, check the wires for open circuits and short circuits.

5. If the voltage is equal to the battery voltage, connect a voltage indicator to contacts 1 and 2 (or 9), and then to contacts 7 and 6. Turn on the starter; if the LED lights up in both cases, replace the relay unit; if it does not light up, repair the open circuit in the wiring.
