Working diameter of the main tandem brake cylinder (further only THV) is 23.81 mm, it is made in the form of a double ring and is installed in a horizontal position. A part of the THV mounting kit is the brake fluid reservoir, seated directly on the cylinder with rubber bushings and attached to it.
THV creates excess pressure for the foot brake system. It is controlled by the brake pedal with the help of a vacuum brake booster. The THV body is cast iron and is attached to the amplifier through a flange with two nuts. M12 x 1 threaded lugs are used to connect pipes leading to the individual brake cylinders in the wheels. On the one side (right in direction of travel) there are leads for the brakes of the front wheels, on the opposite side - for the brakes of the rear wheels.
The THV has a spool system for bypassing brake fluid between the working volumes of the cylinder and the brake fluid reservoir.
Tandem brake cylinder is used for non-ABS braking system, the same is used with built-in ABS system (or ABS/EDS).
Since the manufacturer prohibits any unauthorized intervention in any part of the brake system, details of the construction and dismantling of the THV are not given here. In the event of a malfunction, contact the Skoda service department. We add that if the function of one brake circuit is impaired, this also means if the front or rear part of the THV fails, the second circuit remains in working condition and the car retains its braking capacity by about 50%.
Of course, in this case, the pedal travel will be extended by about the same 50%. The remaining circuit ensures safe braking of the vehicle.
