Carefully insert the return line fittings into the injectors. The fitting should lock into place with a clearly audible click. After this, carefully press the retainers down. Check the fuel system for leaks.

Checking fuel consumption in the return fuel lines of the injectors at starter speed

Note: If the engine does not start, you can also check the fuel flow in the return lines of the injectors while turning the starter. For each individual injector, the return fuel flow has a small value. If this value is greater for one of the injectors than for the others, then this injector is presumably faulty.

Remove the upper engine cover. Before disconnecting all connectors, clean them (e.g. with cleaner "Kaltreiniger"). Dry all cleaned parts. Remove sound insulation. Pull the return fuel line nipple out of the injector by pulling the clamps up "arrows" for this.

Note: Ensure cleanliness is maintained and do not allow dirt to enter the removed return fuel lines and injector connectors.

Disconnect electrical connector "2" from fuel pressure regulator "N₂76" "pos. 1".

Note: This prevents fuel injection when attempting to start the engine.

Firmly place the C6 adapter on the return fuel line connectors of all 4 injectors. Connect the hoses of the VAS 6684 return fuel line flow meter to the adapter. Crank the engine three times with the starter (to avoid overheating the starter, wait approximately 20 seconds between starting attempts). The specified return volume is 0 ml. If fuel is leaking from the injector, the injector must be replaced. Reconnect the electrical connector of the fuel pressure regulator "N₂76".
