Cold engine. Release residual pressure in the cooling system by briefly opening the "arrow" cap on the expansion tank of the cooling system. Remove the engine casing. Open clamp "1", remove the cooling system hose and push it to the right. Squeeze the release buttons on hose "2" to the adsorber, disconnect the hose and put it aside. Remove valve 1 of the valve timing adjuster "N₂05" and valve 1 of the exhaust valve timing adjuster "N318".

Unscrew screw "1". Release the dipstick guide tube from the mount on the upper timing chain cover "arrow". Pos. "2" can be ignored.

Installation



Installation is in reverse order. Replace the sealing rings.



Warning! Risk of clogging the lubrication system with sealant residue. Cover the open part of the oil pan with a clean rag.


Remove any remaining sealant from the bearing cap. Clean the mating surfaces from oil and grease.

Note: The sealant must not be expired (see expiration date).


Cut off the tip of the tube of sealant along the front mark (hole diameter about 1.5 mm),

Caution! Risk of clogging the lubrication system due to excess sealant. The sealant bead must not be thicker than specified.


Apply a bead of sealant to the clean mating surfaces of the "arrow" as shown in the figure. Thickness of the sealant bead: 2 mm.

Note: The upper timing chain cover must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.

Tightening sequence of the upper timing chain cover mounting screws

Tighten screws -1 to 6- in the sequence shown. Tighten screws to 9 Nm. Install valve 1 of the camshaft timing adjuster "N₂05" and valve 1 of the exhaust camshaft timing adjuster "N318".
