Removal
Note: The engine must be cold.
1. Release residual pressure from the cooling system by opening the expansion tank cap shown in the figure below.
2. Remove the upper decorative engine cover assembly.
3. Loosen the fastening clamp (1) shown in the figure below and disconnect the water hose. Then take it aside.
4. Press the clamp buttons on the hose (2) for the activated carbon filter, then disconnect the hose and release it from the clamps.
5. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the camshaft phase shifter control valves.
6. Unscrew the mounting bolt (1) shown in the figure below.
7. Disconnect the dipstick guide tube (arrow) from the support and remove it, as shown in the figure below.
8. Unscrew the mounting bolts in the sequence shown in the figure below.
9. Remove the upper timing chain cover.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Note: Always replace the gaskets after disassembly.
1. Remove any remaining sealant from the contact surfaces on the cover and cylinder head.
2. Rinse and dry the contact surfaces.
Note: Check the expiration date of the sealant.
3. Cut off the tip of the dispenser on the tube of sealant to form a hole with a diameter of 1.5 mm.
Caution: Be careful not to apply more sealant than the thickness specified below. Otherwise, excess sealant may get into the oil pan and, as a result, clog the engine oil passages.
4. Apply sealant to the clean mating surface of the upper timing chain cover as shown in the figure below. The thickness of the sealant bead should not exceed 2 mm.
Caution: The timing chain cover must be installed within 5 minutes of applying sealant to its surface.
5. Install the upper timing chain cover onto the cylinder head.
6. Install and tighten the mounting bolts in the sequence shown in the figure below, with a tightening torque of 9 N·m.
7. Install the camshaft phase shifter control valves.
