Note: Do not remove the open valve guards from the new cylinder head until you are ready to install the cylinder head. If a new cylinder head or gasket is installed, replace the coolant. Use new cylinder head bolts and replace other self-locking and multi-tightening fasteners.

2. Removal of the cylinder head should be carried out on a cold engine, otherwise it may become deformed.
3. Relieve the pressure in the high-pressure circuit of the fuel supply system (see Chapter 4).
4. Remove the air cleaner and exhaust pipe (see Chapter 4).
5. Drain the coolant (see Chapter 3).
6. Remove the right front wheel arch liner (see Chapter 11).
7. Loosen the clamp (2 in illustration 23.16), disconnect the connector (arrow), unscrew the bolts (1 and 4) and remove the pressure air tube from the hoses downwards.
8. Remove the bolts (arrows in illustration 25.4), lift the clamps (1 and 2) and remove the air pressure tube.
9. Disconnect the electrical wiring connectors (1 and 2 in the illustration), release the wiring harness from the clips (arrows) and set it aside.

10. On models with additional heating, unscrew the bolts (1 and 2 in the illustration) and move the coolant pipes to the left.

11. Remove the drive shaft casing mounting bolts (see illustration).

12. Remove the bolts (1 and 2 in the illustration) and remove the turbocharger support.

13. Unscrew the hollow bolt (2 in the illustration) and move the coolant pipe to the side. Remove the return oil pipe bolts on the cylinder block and the supply oil pipe bolt (3).

14. Disconnect the tube (1 in illustration 23.2) PCV, unscrew the bolt (arrow), loosen the clamp (2) and remove the inlet pipe. Plug the turbocharger inlet port to prevent dirt from entering.
15. Disconnect the ignition coil wiring connectors and lay the wiring harness aside. Remove the ignition coils (see Chapter 5).
16. Disconnect the coolant line from the expansion tank (see illustration).

17. Disconnect the PCV hose (1 in the illustration), remove the bolts (arrows) and remove the PCV oil separator.

18. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the turbocharger under item (1 in the illustration) and remove the vacuum hose (1) from the vacuum pump. Disconnect the ground wire (2) and disconnect the connector (3). Remove the coolant hoses (4 and 5). Disconnect the coolant hose from the cylinder head in a transverse direction.

19. Remove the bolts (1-3 in the illustration) and remove the heat shield together with the coolant pipe. Then unscrew the bolt (4) and remove the turbocharger oil feed pipe.

20. Disconnect the coolant hose (see illustration).

21. Disconnect the connectors (1-4 in the illustration), set the wiring harness (5) to one side and disconnect the vacuum line (6) going to the EVAP canister.

22. Disconnect the connector (1 in the illustration) and separate it from the holder. Disconnect the connectors (2-4) and disconnect the vacuum line (5).

24. Remove the bolts (see illustration) and separate the coolant pipe from the intake manifold.

25. Give the nut (1 in the illustration), unscrew the bolt (2) and remove the intake manifold support.

26. Remove the fuel supply line (1 in illustration 17.13), pressing the retaining ring upwards, and collect the leaking fuel.
27. Remove the upper timing chain cover (see Section 27).
28. Unscrew the timing phase control valve using the T10352/1 tool (see illustration 28.3).
Note: The valve has a left-hand thread.
29. Remove the bolts (see illustration 28.4) and remove the bearing holder.
30. Using the T10355 key, turn the crankshaft clockwise to the position corresponding to the TDC of piston No. 1. In this case, the notch on the pulley should be opposite the mark on the lower timing chain cover (arrow in illustration 28.5). Mark the position of the timing chain relative to the camshaft sprockets.
31. Unscrew the service hole plug (see illustration).

32. Carefully insert a thin screwdriver into the timing chain tensioner hole (1 in the illustration) and use this screwdriver to move the tensioner locking wedge upwards. With the locking wedge raised, turn the crankshaft counterclockwise (2) to apply tension to the tensioner and secure it with the T40011 locking pin. Turn the crankshaft back to TDC.

33. Remove the bolt (1 in the illustration) and remove the tension bar (2) downwards.

Note: The intake camshaft moves clockwise. Remove the upper guide bar (3) by releasing the holder in the center with a screwdriver and pressing the guide bar away from the cylinder head cover. Remove the timing chain from the camshaft sprockets and place it below.
Caution: After removing the timing chain from the camshafts, do not turn the crankshaft, otherwise the valves, pistons and lower timing chain cover may be damaged. The plates attached to the lower timing chain cover prevent the chain from falling, and when turning the crankshaft with a loose chain, these plates may bend.
34. Turn the plugs (arrows in the illustration) 90° counterclockwise and remove them. Unscrew the hinge plugs (1 and 2) and remove the filler cap.

35. Remove the bolts (arrows on the illustration), then remove the bolts in sequence (1-5) and leave two bolts screwed in. If necessary, turn the intake camshaft to remove the cylinder head bolts.

36. Secure the T10014 eye in the illustration to the cylinder head using the M8x30 bolt (3), two small (1) and two large (2) washers. The outside diameter of the large washers must be larger than the hole in the eye.

37. Hook the MP9-201 lift support to the T10014 eye and to the front left eye of the cylinder head (see illustration). Raise the cylinder head slightly, remove the two remaining cylinder head mounting bolts and ensure that all cylinder head component hoses/pipes and wiring are removed. Carefully lift the cylinder head on the lift, avoiding damage to the timing chain tensioner and guide bars. Place the cylinder head on a soft surface.

38. Prepare new cylinder head mounting bolts, as well as new self-locking nuts and bolts that are tightened in several passes. New seals and gaskets should also be used.
39. Place a clean cloth on the cylinder block to prevent dirt or sandpaper particles from getting into the oil passages and between the pistons and cylinder walls. Carefully clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and block. In doing so, avoid damaging the mating surfaces. It is recommended to use a chemical remover to remove sealant and grease.
40. Clean the threaded holes. Make sure there is no oil or coolant in the threaded holes of the cylinder block, otherwise the cylinder block may crack when tightening the bolts.
41. If a reversible cylinder head is installed, the camshafts must be in the TDC position and the marks on the old sprockets must be transferred to the new sprockets (relative to factory color marks on sprockets). Before installing the reversible cylinder head, lubricate the mating surfaces of the rocker arms and camshaft cams with engine oil.
42. Place the new cylinder head gasket on the centering pins on the cylinder block so that its number is read from the intake side.
Note: Remove the new gasket from its packaging immediately before installing it; handle the gasket with care. If the crankshaft was turned with the cylinder head removed, set piston No. 1 to the TDC position, and then turn the crankshaft back a little.
43. Carefully lower the cylinder head, avoiding damage to the timing chain tensioner and guide bars. Screw in all new cylinder head mounting bolts by hand. To be able to insert the bolts, rotate the intake camshaft. Remove the MP9-201 tool from the cylinder head and tighten the cylinder head mounting bolts in the following sequence: (1-5 in illustration 30.35) with a force of 40 Nm, and then tighten them twice to an angle of 90°. Then tighten the bolts (arrows) with a force of 8 Nm, and then tighten them to an angle of 90°.
44. Ask an assistant to turn the intake shaft counterclockwise with an open-end wrench (see illustration 28.10) and hold it. In this position, place the timing chain on the camshaft sprockets so that the marks applied to the chain and sprockets during removal match. Install the tension guide (2 in illustration 30.33) chain and tighten its bolt (1). After this, the intake camshaft sprocket can be released. Install the upper guide bar (3).
Note: If the upper guide holder is damaged, replace it.
45. Install the bearing holder and tighten its mounting bolts by hand (see illustration 28.4). Remove the locking pin T40011.
46. Turn the crankshaft 2 revolutions and make sure that the valves do not hit the pistons.
47. Tighten the bearing holder mounting bolts (see illustration 28.4).
48. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order. Tighten the PCV oil separator mounting bolts in the following sequence: (1-10 in the illustration) with a force of 11 Nm. Finally, fill with fresh coolant (see Chapter 3).
