All models equipped with airbags are also equipped with automatic front seat belt tensioners. In the event of a frontal collision, the tensioner instantly takes up all the slack in the belt, limiting the freedom of movement of the driver/front passenger to the limit and thereby minimizing the risk of injury. The tensioner mechanism is attached directly to the inertia drum of the seat belt return device.

The tensioner is equipped with an inertial mechanism that is triggered when the frontal overloads exceed a certain value. Weaker impacts do not trigger the device.

When the mechanism is turned on, the fuel placed inside the device is ignited. At the same time, the piston of the assembly moves forward sharply, taking up the slack of the belt, which is then wound onto the inertial drum of the return device. The energy of the explosion occurring in the cylinder of the tensioner ensures reliable fixation of the passenger with the seat belt. After activation, the tensioner is irreversibly blocked and cannot be reused.

When servicing front seats equipped with seat belt tensioners, some special precautions must be taken:

Attention!
  • If you accidentally drop the tensioner, it must be replaced regardless of its external condition.
  • Do not allow solvents to come into contact with tensioner mechanism components!
  • When performing bodywork, try not to hit the car body in the area where the tensioners are located!
  • Do not allow the tensioner assembly to heat up to temperatures above 100°C!
