Note. A special wrench is required to disconnect the inner tie rod end from the rack and pinion (Skoda № MP7-601). The wrench engages securely with the handpiece housing, allowing you to safely release or tighten the rod. Attempts to remove the linkage without the use of a special key are fraught with damage to the components.
Removing
1. Remove the corresponding rod end (see Section Removal and installation of external tips of steering drafts).
2. Thoroughly clean dirt from link surfaces and rack and pinion housing near the boot mounting points. Mark the position of the boot on the crankcase and tie rod. Release the bandages and remove the cover from both the steering gear housing and the linkage.
3. Using a special key, release the inner tip of the steering rack from the steering rack - hold the rack with an open-end wrench wound onto the specially provided flats. Take care not to place excessive stress on the steering gear while disengaging the tip.
4. Remove the steering rack assembly. Check the inner tie rod joint for signs of excessive slack or souring. Make sure that the pull rod is not bent or has any visible mechanical damage. Replace defective rod. The compilers of this Guide recommend replacing the protective cover of the handpiece, regardless of its condition.
Installation
1. Screw the tip into the steering rack and tighten it with the required force - to avoid overloading, hold the rack by the flats with an open-end wrench.
2. Check the quality of the packing of the joint with grease, if necessary, add the necessary amount of grease such as Milykote Longterm 2/78, then carefully put the protective cover on the link rod and pull it on the steering gear housing.
3. Make sure that the cover is not twisted and align its outer edges with the marks made during the dismantling process. Secure the cover with bandages.
4. Reinstall the outer tie rod end (see Section Removal and installation of external tips of steering drafts).
