1. Remove the appropriate tie rod end (see Section Removal and installation of external tips of steering drafts).
2. Mark the installation position of the protective cover on the crankcase of the steering mechanism and draft, then release the fixing bandages and remove the cover from the crankcase and steering rod.
3. Thoroughly clean the tie rod and rack and pinion housing. If necessary, use fine-grit sandpaper to remove any corrosion, nicks and sharp edges that could damage the sealing lips of new covers. After scraping the remaining grease from the old boot, stuff the tie rod end with it (an indispensable condition is the absence of dirt in the lubricant, i.e. the old boot must not be damaged - if you are not sure about the condition of the lubricant, use a fresh type Milykote Longterm 2/78).
4. Gently pull the new boot over the tie rod and rack and pinion housing. Make sure that the cover is not twisted, then achieve the alignment of its outer edges with the marks applied during the dismantling process. Secure the cover with bandages.
5. The order of installation of tips of steering drafts is described in Section Removal and installation of external tips of steering drafts.
