Attention! Before working with a running engine, put the lever in the position "R" and pull out the handbrake.
Examination
Set control lever to position "R". Switch off the ignition. Remove engine cover. Remove air filter. Release lock washer -A- and remove towards top. Remove lock washer -B- towards top. Detach selector lever cable from selector lever/shaft and pull upwards. Lay the control lever cable so that the end moves freely.
Note: Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
Switch on the ignition and press the brake pedal. Control lever switch from "R" on "S". Check the selector lever cable boot at the front of the selector mechanism for damage, replace the actuating cable if necessary. The shift mechanism and selector lever cable must move easily when shifting. It is not allowed to remove the selector lever cable from the shift mechanism (disconnect), it is replaced together with the switching mechanism as one unit. Do not lubricate the spherical bushing of the selector lever cable and the shift lever/shaft. Carefully press selector lever cable onto shift lever/shaft. Install the selector lever cable with new lock washers and "weakened" clamping screw. Adjust selector lever cable.
Adjustment
The selector lever cable must always be adjusted if: The selector lever cable has been removed from the gearbox. The engine or gearbox was removed and installed. The parts of the support unit of the unit were removed and installed. The position of the engine/gearbox changed, for example, they were installed in a free state, without internal stresses.
Adjustment method
Installed new lock washers -A- and -B-. Clamping screw - see arrow - weakened. Move the selector lever in the vehicle to position "R". Press lever on gearbox -in direction of arrow- and set to position "R". Rotate the front wheels in one direction, e.g. move the vehicle forward so that the lock lever in the gearbox engages the gearbox lock gear when parking and the wheels lock (do not rotate together in the same direction).
Note: If the clamping screw is loose, see arrow - the selector lever must always remain in the position "R", otherwise the adjustment is incorrect.
Gently and easily move the selector lever back and forth without switching the lever to another position of the selector lever. Gently tighten clamping screw -see arrow- on selector lever cable to 12 Nm.
Note: When tightening the clamping screw - see arrow - make sure that the selector lever cable does not move.
This completes the adjustment.
Check selector lever cable adjustment
Move the selector lever out of position "R" while pressing the button approx. 5 mm back and hold without switching to the position "R". Release the selector lever. The selector lever should automatically return to the position "R". Adjust the selector lever if necessary. Set selector lever to position "N". Move the selector lever out of position "N" while pressing the button approx. 5 mm back and hold without switching to the position "D". Release the selector lever. The selector lever should automatically return to the position "N". Adjust the selector lever if necessary. Move the selector lever out of position "N" while pressing the button approx, 5 mm forward and hold without switching to the position "R". Release the selector lever. The selector lever should automatically return to the position "N". Adjust the selector lever if necessary. Check the switching mechanism. Install the air filter. Install the engine cover.
