Note: The gearbox must be installed vertically on the assembly stand, the clutch hole must point upwards. This is the only way to perfectly adjust the clutch axial clearance. The gearbox must be securely fastened in the assembly stand -MP9-101-, it must not turn. The large disc cage is inserted into the clutch in all discs, it must not slip out of the lowest disc. The input shaft of the transmission oil pump has been removed. Do not install deformed retaining rings.
First install the lock bolt "T10303" on the seat "see arrow" of the clutch housing cover.
Then carefully install the clutch "A" in the "direction of the arrow"; protect from falling.
The second mechanic must hold the locking bolt "T10303" while doing this. The locking bolt "T10303" remains there until the clutch housing cover is installed.
Select the 2mm thick ring "see arrow" from all the supplied retaining rings and install it temporarily. Before removing this ring, two measurements must be taken.
First dimension
The locking bolt "T103D3" remains installed! Screw the universal indicator bracket - MPZ-447 (VW 387)- onto the gearbox flange. Install the indicator probe onto the gearbox input shaft. Install the dial indicator with a preliminary tension of 1 mm to 0. Raise the clutch up to the stop and record the measurement result.
Second dimension
The locking bolt "T10303" remains installed! Install the indicator probe on the hub of the large clutch disc cage.
Note: The feeler gauge must not rest on the retaining ring.
Set the dial indicator with a preload of 1 mm to 0. Raise the clutch as far as it will go and record the measurement result. Now calculate which other new circlips are installed in the end. To do this, use the formula: Result of the second measurement minus the result of the first measurement plus 1.85 mm = thickness of the circlip to be installed.
Example
Record this result. The remaining new retaining rings have different thicknesses in 0.1 mm increments. Measure all the rings and determine the ring whose thickness best matches the result. Remove the 2 mm thick ring and replace it with a ring of the specified thickness. Discard all remaining rings.

Note: The retaining rings can only be installed once.
Insert the primary shaft of the transmission oil pump and turn it slightly "in the direction of the arrow".
Insert the clutch housing cover so that the protrusion "see arrow B" is covered by the mark "see arrow A". Install the new retaining ring "1" into the clutch.
Remove the locking bolt "T10303". Install the clutch housing cover. This completes the installation, the clutch is correctly adjusted.
