General information
Seat belts have been proven to provide sufficiently reliable protection for the driver and passengers of vehicles in case of emergency collisions. In most countries, the mandatory use of seat belts is mandated by law.
Attention! Seat belts must be used on every journey (by motorway, or in the city).
Pregnant women should also wear seat belts.
The effectiveness of the seat belts is directly dependent on the correct installation of them.
In a frontal collision, unbelted persons in the passenger compartment are thrown forward, hitting the obstacles uncontrollably (steering wheel, instrument panel, windshield, etc.).
The widespread belief that you can hold onto something with your hands on a weak impact is a profound delusion due to the extremely high accelerations that occur during sudden braking or changing direction, even at low travel speeds.
Rear passengers are also required to wear seat belts to avoid being thrown into the front half of the cabin.
General instructions
- The seat belt should not be pinched anywhere, twisted and rubbed against cutting edges;
- More than one person should not be fastened with the same belt at the same time (including children);
- The maximum effectiveness of the protection of seat belts is achieved with the correct position of the body sitting;
- The belt should not be thrown over hard or fragile objects stowed in pockets (including pencils, pens, keys, etc.);
- The layering of loose outerwear adversely affects the effectiveness of the protection provided by seat belts;
- It is forbidden to use various kinds of clips that allow you to adjust and fasten the belts, adjusting them to the structural features of the body of the seated person;
- The seat belt buckle must only latch into the buckle intended for this belt;
- It is necessary to monitor the cleanliness of seat belts - contamination can disrupt the proper functioning of the return device;
- The opening of the seat belt buckle must not be clogged with any foreign objects (such as pieces of paper, coins, etc.);
- Damaged seat belts, as well as belts that have been subjected to increased loads in an emergency collision, must be replaced. The condition of the belt anchors should also be checked;
- Three-hunker inertia type seat belts.
Inertia-type seat belts do not at all restrict the freedom of movement of the persons fastened by them.
In case of sudden braking or maneuvering of the car, the return device drum is automatically blocked and the possibility of moving the body of the seated person is limited.
Attention! The backrests of the front seats should not be excessively tilted back, as this greatly reduces the effectiveness of holding the body of the seated lap section of the three-anchor belt.
Pulling the belt on the sliding buckle, throw its shoulder section over the chest. The lap section of the belt should wrap around your upper thighs. Insert the clasp of the lock into the receiving groove of the buckle and click the clasp. Make sure the lock is working properly by pulling the belt.
The shoulder section of the belt should pass through the middle part of the seated shoulder and tightly compress the chest. The waist section should ensure the fixation of the pelvic part of the torso, being located as high as possible on the hips of the seated person.
The height-adjustable top anchor allows you to adjust the belt to the height and body size of the seated person.
To adjust the anchor height, press the release lever, then move the floating anchor bracket in the appropriate direction.
Note. The shoulder section of the belt should pass through the middle of the shoulder of the seated person, but in no case through the neck.
After properly adjusting the height of the mount, use a short jerk to check that the floating bracket is secure.
Pregnant women are also required to wear a seat belt. In this case, the lap section of the belt should be located as high as possible on the hips of the seated person and in no case should it cover the stomach from above.
To remove the belt, press the red release button of the lock built into the buckle. The tongue of the floating buckle will be pushed out of the buckle under the influence of the force developed by the spring. The unfastened belt will wind up on the return device drum automatically. If necessary, you can correct the sliding bracket of the lock by hand. The plastic stop of the shackle will provide the lock tongue with a ready-to-use position.
Lap belt
The central place in the rear seat of the car is equipped with a lap belt. The principle of functioning of the lock of a two-anchor waist belt is completely identical to that for three-anchor type belts.
Adjusting the length of the waist belt is done by changing the position of the buckle. The fastened belt should tightly compress the upper thighs of the seated person, providing a reliable support for the pelvic region of the torso. The free end of the belt is secured by threading it into a plastic frame.
Automatic belt tensioners
In order to increase the level of driver and passenger safety, the three-anchor seat belts of the front seats of the car can be equipped with automatic tensioners.
Activation of devices occurs during strong frontal impacts. Under the influence of overload, the squibs of the drive of the tensioner drums explode and the belts are tightened, providing more reliable support to the body of the seated person.
Weak overloads do not cause the tensioners to actuate.
Attention! Any maintenance on tensioners should be entrusted to car service specialists.
When the tensioners are activated, slight smoke may occur, which should not be a cause for concern.
Devices are intended for single operation only and must be replaced after it (along with straps).
Tensioners must be disposed of with special precautions (consult a car service specialist).
Transportation of children
The transportation of young and middle-aged children should be carried out using special devices installed on the car seat and fastened together with the seat belts.
