Engine starting
Before starting the engine, shift the manual transmission control lever to neutral and firmly apply the parking brake.
To prevent the starter from spinning the idle gearbox, depress the clutch pedal all the way.
Release the ignition key as soon as the engine starts to prevent damage to the starter drive gear.
Attention! The engine must be warmed up while driving. Start driving immediately after starting.
Before warming up the engine to normal operating temperature, avoid increasing the speed of the crankshaft (try not to depress the gas pedal all the way).
Attention! If the car is equipped with a catalytic converter, do not start its engine by pushing or towing - ignition of crude fuel that has entered the converter can lead to failure of the working element. Try first "light a cigarette" from the auxiliary battery.
Petrol models equipped with a fuel injection system
The fuel injection system provides the engine with a combustible mixture of the optimal composition. In view of the foregoing, the starting procedure for such engines is the same for any outside temperature and does not depend on whether the engine is warmed up at the time of starting or not.
Before starting and during it, do not depress the accelerator pedal. If unsuccessful, wait about half a minute, then try again. Note: Do not crank the engine with the starter continuously for more than 10 seconds in a row.
If the engine is overheated, immediately after starting it makes sense to slightly increase the speed.
Carburetor models
Starting a cold engine
The engine is equipped with an automatic device that ensures the enrichment of the air-fuel mixture during cold start. The machine is activated by slowly depressing the accelerator pedal once until it stops.
In frosty weather (from - 25°C) depress the pedal three times.
After completing the described manipulations with the accelerator pedal, release it and proceed to start the engine.
Before starting and during it, do not depress the accelerator pedal. If unsuccessful, wait about half a minute, then try again.
Note. Do not crank the engine with the starter continuously for more than 10 seconds in a row.
Attention! After completing an attempt to start the engine, the ignition key must be returned to the position each time "0" to prevent overheating of the starter.
Starting a warm engine
Slowly depressing the accelerator pedal, start, then release the pedal.
Starting a hot engine
Without pumping, depress the accelerator pedal and hold it in the lower position during the entire starting time. Release the pedal when starting is complete.
Diesel models
Preheat system
Diesel models are equipped with an automatic pre-heating device, which is activated after opening and then closing any of the front doors. If the start is not performed, then the repeated use of the doors does not lead to the initiation of the system.
Starting a cold engine
Turn the ignition key to position "I" - the control lamp of the preheating system should light up on the instrument panel. When the engine reaches start temperature, the lamp will turn off.
Note. In order to minimize the load on the battery, if possible, try to avoid the use of other consumers of electricity during the pre-heating of the engine.
As soon as the control lamp goes out, you should start the engine. If the engine speed is not stable at the time of starting, keep the key turned a little longer, but not more than 30 seconds.
In case of failure, repeat the entire procedure described. If the engine still does not start this time, check the condition of the preheater fuse.
Note. When starting, do not touch the accelerator pedal.
Speed warning system
The signal buzzer turns on when the vehicle speed reaches 120 km/h.
Engine stop
When using the car for a long time with an increased load on the engine, turn off the latter not immediately after the end of the movement, but before letting it idle for about 2 minutes - this precaution will help to avoid the risk of overheating of the turned off engine.
Attention! After the engine is stopped, the cooling fan may continue to operate for some more time (up to 10 minutes). Later activation of the fan is also possible, but only in the following cases:
As a result of the accumulation of heat, the temperature of the coolant has increased; The engine compartment, when the engine is not completely cooled down, is additionally heated under the influence of solar radiation.
Performing any work in the engine compartment, be careful!
Note. On models equipped with a catalytic converter, the ignition should never be switched off while driving in gear, as this may cause unburned fuel to enter the working element of the converter and cause it to fail if ignited during the restart of the engine.
