Removal

Caution! The negative cable should always be disconnected from the battery first and connected last!

If the car is equipped with a Skoda branded audio system, make sure you have the code required to disable the security system blocker before disconnecting the battery. On models equipped with an anti-theft system, do not forget to disable the system with a special key.

1. Loosen the clamp nut and remove the terminal clamp from the negative battery terminal.

Note: Do not mix up the wires - both have black insulation.

3. Unscrew the bolts at the base of the battery and fold back the battery mounting clamp.

4. If equipped, unbolt and remove the front suspension strut support spacer rod. If necessary, remove the upper heater/fan unit cover. On petrol models, remove the carbon canister purge valve from its base and move it to the side without disconnecting the hoses.

5. If equipped, disconnect the vent tube from the top of the battery, then remove the battery from the engine compartment.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When connecting the wires to the battery terminals, lubricate the terminal blocks with acid-free petroleum jelly to prevent corrosion.

Note: Always connect the negative cable last!

On petrol models, disconnecting the battery clears the engine management system's memory of the engine's current parameters. Restoring the adaptation data may take some time, which leads to a disruption in the stability of the engine speed during the first minutes after the next engine start.

On models equipped with an anti-theft device, remember to remove the key from the main unit of the system.
