Removal and installation
Removal
1. Remove the right front wheel arch liner (for more details, see the corresponding section in the chapter Body).
2. Remove the powertrain support assembly.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner roller (for more details, see the relevant section in this chapter).
4. Remove the accessory drive belt pulley from the crankshaft (for more details, see the relevant section in this chapter).
5. Screw in the bolt securing the accessory drive belt pulley, using a special thrust mandrel.
6. Disconnect the dipstick guide tube from the retainer (arrow) on the upper timing chain cover, as shown in the figure below.
7. Unscrew the fastening screw (1) shown in the figure below.
8. Remove the dipstick guide tube as shown in the figure below.

9. Unscrew the bolts securing the lower timing chain cover in the sequence shown in the figure below.

10. Insert a suitable tool into the designated area to cut through the sealant and separate the lower timing belt cover from the cylinder block.
11. Carefully and gradually remove the lower timing chain cover from the cylinder block.
Installation
Note:
- Check the expiration date of the silicone sealant.
- The lower timing chain cover must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the sealant.
- After disassembly, it is always necessary to replace the mounting bolts, which are tightened to a certain angle.
- Always replace all gaskets, sealing rings and self-locking nuts after disassembly.
1. Remove any remaining sealant from the contact surfaces on the lower timing chain cover and on the cylinder block, as well as on the adjacent surface of the oil pan, using a special solvent.
2. Degrease the contact surfaces.
3. Check and ensure that the two guide pins (arrows) are present in the cylinder block as shown in the figure below.

4. Cut off the tip of the sealant tube dispenser to create a 3 mm diameter hole.
5. Apply sealant to the contact surface of the lower timing chain cover as shown in the figure below (arrow 1 and 2). The diameter of the sealant bead should be 2-3 mm.
Modification with 8 mounting bolts
Modification with 15 mounting bolts
Please note: The thickness of the sealant bead should not exceed the thickness specified in the previous paragraph. Otherwise, excess sealant may get into the oil pan and, as a result, clog the oil passages.
Modification with 8 mounting bolts
6. Tighten the timing chain lower cover mounting bolts in the sequence shown in the figure below in two steps.
- first approach: tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 8 Nm.
- second approach: tighten the mounting bolts further at an angle of 45°.

Modification with 15 mounting bolts
6. Tighten the timing chain lower cover mounting bolts in the sequence shown in the figure below in two steps.
- first approach: tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 8 Nm.
- second approach: tighten the mounting bolts further at an angle of 45°.

Caution: Do not add engine oil to the engine or start it for 30 minutes after installing the lower timing chain cover to allow the sealant to dry.
7. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
8. Install the drive belt tensioner roller for the accessory drive.
9. Fill the lubrication system with engine oil.
