Note: Detailed information on the placement and design of the power unit supports is given in Section Removal the power unit from the vehicle - preparation and precautions, general information about the power unit suspension.

Examination

1. Jack up the front of the car and place it on supports.

2. Check the powertrain suspension support cushions for cracks, signs of material hardening, rubber peeling off the metal base, and other damage. Defective supports must be replaced.

3. Using a torque wrench, check that the threaded connections of the supports are tightened correctly.

4. Using a large screwdriver or crowbar as a lever, assess the degree of wear on the supports (if necessary, use the help of an assistant). If excessive play is detected, replace the worn components, after making sure that the fasteners are securely tightened.

Replacement

Right support

The rubber cushion of the right support is mounted in the water pump housing. The cushion is removed using a hydraulic press or a set of punches with spacer bushings. It would be better to entrust this work to specialists at a car service workshop.

Left support

The left support cushion is mounted in the end cover of the gearbox housing and can be removed in the workshop of the Skoda brand service center using a special puller.

Rear supports

1. The rear suspension arm support is equipped with two rubber torsion inserts, one of which (the main one) is pressed into the bracket fixed to the rear wall of the manual transmission housing, the second, smaller rubber bushing, is pressed into the rear part of the front suspension subframe linkage. Replacement of the rubber components of the support is carried out in a car service workshop, since special devices are required for its implementation.

2. To remove the main torsion insert, support the power unit with a second jack (to distribute the load, place a wooden block between the jack head and the oil pan). Remove the nut and the through bolt securing the support to the subframe linkage. Remove the two bolts and the nut (on models of recent years of production - three nuts) fasten the support to the gearbox housing and remove the support assembly from the vehicle.

3. To remove the linkage, loosen the nut that secures its rear part to the support bracket on the subframe, remove the through bolt with the washer. Then loosen the nut and remove the through bolt that secures the linkage to the main support bracket. Remove the linkage and take it out from under the car.

4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure that the tightening force of the fasteners is observed.
