Removal
1. Remove the cylinder head cover (see section Removal and installation the camshaft housing cover).
2. Using a socket wrench, remove the two cylinder head bolts used to secure the left and right rocker arm shaft supports to the cylinder head.

3. In several stages (1/2 turn per approach) loosen the rocker shaft mounting bolts evenly, releasing the latter from the force exerted by the valve springs. Unscrew the bolts, remembering the original location of the oil deflector, and remove the rocker shaft assembly from the cylinder head.

4. If necessary, remove the components from the axle, first removing the retaining ring.

5. Place the components to be removed in the order in which they are installed on the axles.
Checking the status
Check the working surfaces of the axle (rocker arm and bearing mounting locations) for signs of wear, scratches and scoring. Worn axle and/or rocker arms must be replaced.
Installation
1. Proceeding in the reverse order of dismantling, place the components removed from the rocker arm shaft (in the correct order). Secure the assembly with a retaining ring, making sure it is seated correctly in its groove. Make sure the rocker arms rotate freely on the axle.

2. Lower the assembly to its standard place in the cylinder head. Make sure that the rocker arm adjusting screws are correctly engaged in the ends of the corresponding pushrods.
3. Screw in the mounting bolts (don't forget to install the oil deflector plate on the right support) and tighten them evenly in several steps to the required force.

4. Install the two cylinder head bolts used to secure the rocker arm shaft supports and tighten them in three stages.
5. Adjust the valve clearances (see Chapter Routine maintenance).
6. Reinstall the cylinder head cover (see section Removal and installation the camshaft housing cover).
