Removing
1. Chock the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Remove the corresponding rear wheel.
2. Remove the brake drum (see chapter Brake system). On models equipped with ABS, unbolt the wheel sensor and, without disconnecting the wiring, remove it away from the hub assembly.
3. In order to minimize the loss of brake fluid, remove the cap from the GTZ reservoir, place a plastic film under it and screw it tightly again, having achieved the required sealing. Alternatively, clamp the flexible brake hose as close to the wheel cylinder as possible with a clamp.
4. Wipe outside the nipple connection of the brake pipe, give the union nut and carefully separate the pipe from the wheel cylinder. Seal the open ends of the tubing and fitting immediately to prevent dirt from entering the system. Use a rag to collect any spilled liquid.
5. Turn out bolts of fastening of assembly of a brake board and separate the last from a pin of the back bridge. Remove the axle trunnion assembly from the vehicle. Temporarily secure the brake shield to the axle with a couple of bolts to prevent the parking brake cable from pulling out.
6. Check the trunnion assembly for mechanical damage, nicks and burrs. Replace if necessary.
Note. Never attempt to straighten a bent trunnion.
Installation
1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the axle, trunnion assembly and brake shield. Check the condition of the shield, if necessary, remove the identified roughness with a file or fine-grained sandpaper.
2. Move the trunnion assembly with the brake shield to its regular place, screw in the fixing bolts and tighten them in a diagonal order with the required force.
3. Wipe the brake pipe and connect it to the back of the wheel cylinder. Tighten the union nut securely.
4. Remove the clamp clamping the brake hose / remove the plastic film from under the cover of the GTZ reservoir, then reinstall the brake drum and bleed the hydraulic circuit (see chapter Brake system). On models equipped with ABS, reinstall the wheel sensor.
