Removing
1. Chock the rear wheels, apply the parking brake firmly, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Remove both front wheels.
2. Remove the downpipe and catalytic converter of the exhaust system (see part Dismantling of the power unit and overhaul of the engine Chapters Engine repair).
3. Remove the anti-roll bar (see Section Removal and installation of the front suspension stabilizer bar).
4. Remove both lower suspension arms (see Section Removal, overhaul and installation of lower front suspension arms).
5. Turn out coupling bolts of collars of supports of a case of the steering mechanism. Remove the clamps from the subframe.
6. Give a nut and take a through bolt of fastening of a back support of a suspension bracket of the power unit.
7. Make sure that all cables and hoses attached to the subframe are released from the clamps and set aside.
8. Place a jack under the subframe with a wooden bar laid on its head.
9. Turn out bolts of fastening of a stretcher, accurately lower assembly on a jack and take it from under the car. Make sure that during the extraction process, the subframe does not cling to the tubes of the lines of the power steering system.
Installation
Installation is in the reverse order. Particular attention should be paid to the following points:
- a) Mounting bolts must be tightened strictly with the required force;
- b) Before installing the clamps, make sure that the rubber pads of the steering mechanism mounts are correctly positioned (bushings should be pressed against the subframe with the flat side). Clean the threads of the mounting bolts, then lubricate with a fixing sealant such as Loctite 270. Tighten the bolts with the required force;
- c) Install the lower levers and the anti-roll bar in accordance with the instructions given in Sections Removal, overhaul and installation of lower front suspension arms, Removal and installation of the front suspension stabilizer bar;
- d) The procedure for installing the exhaust system is given in Part Dismantling of the power unit and overhaul of the engine Heads Engine repair;
- e) Finally, don't forget to check the geometry of the front suspension (see Section Vehicle wheel alignment - general information).
