Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery (see the warning in Section General information and precautions).
2. Find the end of the speedometer drive cable fixed to the gearbox housing. Loosen the knurled nut and disconnect the cable from the drive.
3. Remove the steering wheel (see chapter Suspension and steering).
4. On models without airbags, release the fixing screw and lower the lower casing of the steering column, release it from the retainer and remove the columns.
5. On all models, remove the mounting screw, lower the tabs, and remove the speaker top cover.
6. In order to provide access to the upper screw securing the instrument panel, carefully pry with a small screwdriver and remove the plastic plug...
... (on some models, instead of a plug, a display of the outdoor temperature meter is installed). Also remove the decorative cover from the central part of the ventilation duct deflector mounted in the casing.
7. In order to gain access to the lower screws securing the cover of the shield, remove the plugs installed on the sides of both sets of pushbutton switches located on the sides of the shield.
8. Remove the top and bottom mounting screws and remove the instrument panel housing assembly. As access opens, disconnect the electrical wiring connectors located on the back of the panel. Then release the clamps and disconnect the speedometer drive cable from the shield.
9. In case of need release clamps and separate a combination of devices from a guard casing.
Installation
1. Bring the assembly to its regular place and connect the speedometer drive cable and electrical wiring connectors to it. Track reliability of fastening of sockets, then plant assembly in the panel of devices.
2. Screw in the fixing screws and tighten them firmly. Replace all provided plugs.
3. Establish into place the top casing of a steering column, track reliability of engagement of clamps and durability of a tightening of the fixing screw. On models without airbag, also install the lower speaker cover.
4. Replace the steering wheel (see chapter Suspension and steering).
5. Connect a negative wire to the battery and check up serviceability of functioning of control lamps of an instrument panel.
6. If everything is in order, connect the speedometer drive cable to the manual transmission, firmly tightening the knurled nut.
