Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (see warning in Section General information and precautions).

2. Find the end of the speedometer drive cable secured to the gearbox housing. Loosen the nut with the knurling and disconnect the cable from the drive.
3. Remove the steering wheel (see Chapter Suspension and steering).
4. On models without airbags, loosen the retaining screw and lower the lower steering column cover, release it from the retainer and remove the columns.
5. On all models, remove the mounting screw, lower the tabs and remove the top speaker cover.



6. To gain access to the top instrument panel mounting screw, carefully pry up and remove the plastic plug with a small screwdriver...

...(on some models, instead of the plug, an outside air temperature meter display is installed). Also remove the decorative cover from the central part of the ventilation duct deflector shield mounted in the casing.
7. To gain access to the lower screws securing the panel casing, remove the plugs installed on the sides of both sets of pushbutton switches located on the sides of the panel.

8. Remove the upper and lower mounting screws and remove the instrument cluster cover assembly. As access opens, disconnect the electrical connectors located on the back of the cluster. Then release the clamps and disconnect the speedometer drive cable from the cluster.

9. If necessary, release the clamps and separate the instrument cluster from the dashboard housing.
Installation
1. Bring the assembly to its regular place and connect the speedometer drive cable and electrical wiring connectors to it. Make sure the connectors are securely fastened, then seat the assembly in the instrument panel.
2. Insert the mounting screws and tighten them securely. Replace all the provided plugs.
3. Reinstall the upper steering column cover, making sure the clips are securely engaged and the mounting screw is tight. On models without an airbag, also install the lower column cover.

4. Reinstall the steering wheel (see Chapter Suspension and steering).
5. Connect the negative cable to the battery and check the proper functioning of the instrument panel indicator lights.
6. If everything is OK, connect the speedometer drive cable to the manual transmission, firmly tightening the nut with the knurled screw.
