Removal
Note: See the warnings provided in Section General information and precautions.
1. The fuel tank does not have a drain plug, so it is advisable to dismantle it after it is completely empty. Do not forget to disconnect the battery first by disconnecting the negative cable. The remaining fuel can be pumped out of the tank using a syringe or a hand pump.
2. Support the front wheels of the car with wedges, then jack up the rear of the car and place it on supports. Remove the right rear wheel.
3. Remove the access cover and disconnect the electrical wiring and fuel supply and return hoses from the top of the fuel pump/fuel flow sensor assembly.
4. Under the vehicle, loosen the worm clamps and disconnect the filler tube from the tank.
5. Release the retaining clips and unclip the parking brake cables from the guide clips on the fuel tank mounting bracket and both ends of the rear axle beam. Slide the cables to the side and tie them in place with wire.
.6 Support the tank, then loosen the mounting bracket bolts. Turn the brackets down and lower the tank. Note that one of the tank mounting bracket bolts is also used to secure the exhaust system hanger support - tie up the appropriate section of the system. When lowering the tank, make sure that it does not catch on any nearby components. Remove the tank from under the car and drain the last of the fuel. Seal all openings to prevent dirt from getting into the tank.
7. If water gets into the tank or if there are signs of severe internal contamination, flush the tank with clean fuel. The leaking tank should be taken to a specialized workshop for inspection and repair.
Installation
Installation is carried out in reverse order. Please note the following points:
- a) When lifting the tank to its normal position, try not to pinch any fuel hoses;
- b) Ensure that all lines are correctly routed and securely fastened. Make sure that the hoses are not twisted;
- c) The bolts of the tank mounting brackets must be tightened to the required torque;
- d) Finally, fill the tank with fuel and check for any signs of leaks.
