Note: A new shift rod roll pin will be required for assembly.

Removal

1. Chock the rear wheels, set the parking brake firmly, then jack up the front of the car and place it on stands. Remove both front wheels.

2. At the end of the gear selector shaft facing the manual transmission, remove the mounting clamp, providing access to the cylindrical pin.

Note: When assembling, the standard clamp should be replaced with a more convenient screw or worm clamp. Knock out and discard the old cylindrical pin - it must be replaced during assembly.

3. Loosen the nut of the axle bolt securing the gear selector rod to the base of the manual transmission control lever/support plate. Remove the axle bolt and disconnect the rod from the axle of the shift forks in the gearbox. Remove the rod from the car. Remove the axle bushing from the base of the manual transmission control lever.

4. Unscrew the bolt securing the shift rod to the gearbox. Remove the washers and rubber cushion.

5. Remove both stabilizer bar struts (see section Removal and installation the front suspension stabilizer bar struts).

6. Unscrew the bolts securing the rod support clamps to the subframe. Remove the clamps.

7. Remove the anti-roll bar from under the vehicle and remove the rubber bushings from its supports.

8. Carefully inspect the stabilizer components for signs of wear, material aging or mechanical damage. Particular attention should be paid to the condition of the rubber bushings of the supports. Replace defective components.

Installation

1. Place the rubber bushings on the stabilizer bar (flat sides up).

2. Place the anti-roll bar into its regular place on the subframe. Install the support mounting clamps, making sure they are properly engaged in the rear of the subframe. Screw in the mounting bolts.

3. Install the stabilizer bar struts (see section Removal and installation the front suspension stabilizer bar struts), then tighten the clamp bolts to the required torque.

4. Clean the threads of the transmission component mounting bolts.

5. Make sure that the rubber bushings and washers are seated correctly, connect the shift rod to the gearbox housing. Lightly lubricate the threads of the mounting bolt with a sealant such as Loctite 279 or Three Bond 1305, then screw the bolt in and tighten it to the required torque (see Chapter Transmission).

6. Make sure that the axial bushing of the manual transmission control lever is installed correctly. Lubricate the bushing with universal grease. Install the gear selection rod in place, lubricate with sealant (see previous paragraph) the thread of the nut, then screw the latter onto the bolt and tighten it to the required torque (see Chapter Transmission). Using a new cylindrical pin, connect the selector rod to the manual transmission. Secure the pin with a screw or worm type clamp.

7. Replace the wheels, lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to the required torque.
