General information
The flywheel is made of steel and equipped with a ring gear. It is attached to the crankshaft flange with six M10x1 bolts with TORX heads. The flywheel is designed to fit a clutch assembly with a diameter of 190 mm. The bolt holes are located asymmetrically, which determines the unambiguous fit of the flywheel, the balancing of which is assembled with the crankshaft. The threaded part of the bolts during assembly is lubricated with a fixing sealant such as Loctite 574 or Loctite 270.
When installing the ring gear on the flywheel, the latter must be heated to a temperature of 400°C.
Removing
1. Remove the gearbox (see chapter Transmission) and clutch assembly (see chapter Clutch).
2. With the help of a latch made of a thick metal plate (see accompanying illustration) wedge the flywheel ring gear, blocking the latter from turning while releasing the bolts of its fastening. Alternatively, the flywheel can be locked with a metal plate bolted between it and the clutch dome. To avoid imbalance during assembly, mark the position of the flywheel in relation to the end of the crankshaft trunnion
3. Turn out fixing bolts and by means of the assistant remove a heavy flywheel.
Examination
1. Check up a condition of a surface of a flywheel interfaced with a disk of coupling. In case of detection of deep scratches, cracks, scuffs and other mechanical damage, the flywheel must be replaced, or must be given to the groove (consult a car service specialist).
2. Carefully inspect the flywheel ring gear. In case of wear or loss of teeth, the crown should be replaced in a car service workshop.
Installation
1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the flywheel and crankshaft trunnion. Having driven the threaded holes in the end of the crankshaft trunnion with a tap, remove the remnants of the fixing sealant and corrosion products from them.
Note. In the absence of a suitable tap at hand, the holes can be cleaned using an old bolt with a threaded part sawn along, as described in Section Replacing the crankshaft seals (but with head).
2. If the new mounting bolts are not lubricated with a fixing compound at the factory, lightly lubricate their threads with a suitable sealant.
3. Install the flywheel on the crankshaft trunnion in accordance with the landing marks applied during the dismantling process.
Note. The new flywheel can be installed in any position. Screw in the bolts and tighten them until only by hand.
4. Use one of the methods suggested above to block the flywheel from turning, then tighten the mounting bolts with the required force.
5. Reinstall the clutch and gearbox assembly (see chapters Clutch and Transmission).
