Removal and installation ceramic glow plugs

Before installation, check the ceramic glow plugs using the "Control Unit Diagnosis" function of the VAS 5051. Switch off the ignition. Lift the engine cover at the sides "arrow A" and remove it forward "arrow B".

Disconnect the plug connectors from the "arrow" glow plugs.

Important: When loosening a ceramic glow plug, do not exceed the maximum permissible torque of 20 Nm. Ceramic glow plugs should always be loosened using the recommended socket insert and a torque wrench. Carefully loosen the glow plug using an extension socket, e.g. "3122 B", observing the maximum permissible torque of 20 Nm.

If the glow plug cannot be loosened with a maximum torque of 20 Nm, use a screw release agent and repeat the loosening process.

Important: If the glow plug cannot be loosened even after using a release agent with a maximum torque of 20 Nm, the cylinder head must be removed and then the glow plug must be unscrewed.

Put on a hose -N 020150 5- approx. long. 250 mm on the loosened glow plug, unscrew it carefully so that it does not jam. Remove the unscrewed ceramic glow plug using the hose upwards so that no contact occurs, and carefully set it aside.

Installation

Important: Cylinder head and ceramic glow plug threads must be clean and dry, free of oil or grease. Clean the glow plug bores in the cylinder head from solid combustion residues. After screwing the ceramic glow plugs into the holes, tighten them slightly by hand. It is absolutely necessary to adhere to the maximum permissible tightening torque of 12 Nm for ceramic glow plugs (threads - clean and dry, without oil or lubricant). If not observed, there is a risk of journal fracture, which always leads to serious damage to the engine.

Tighten the ceramic glow plugs using the recommended socket and a torque wrench, applying a maximum torque of 12 Nm. Before starting the engine for the first time, inspect the condition of the installed ceramic glow plugs.

Removal and installation metal glow plugs

Turn off the ignition. Disconnect connectors from glow plugs "arrows". Remove glow plugs using socket extension "3122 B". Installation is carried out in reverse order; observe the following instructions. Install the glow plugs and tighten them to a torque of 15 Nm.
