1. Rear wheel hub; 2. Outer bearing; 3. Rear wheel hub/steering knuckle nut; 4. Cotter pin; 5. Retainer; 6. Washer; 7. Seal; 8. Inner bearing; 9. Pivot pin.

Note: Do not remove bearings unless absolutely necessary, as they will likely be damaged. A press or large bench vice will be required to install the bearing.

Removal

1. Remove and inspect the brake drum (Section 9).

2. Remove the cover from the hub, remove the cotter pin and nut retainer, then unscrew the nut and remove the washer (Section 1).

3. Remove the hub from the steering knuckle (see photo). If the bearings need to be replaced, remove their inner rings; if this is not done, protect the hub assembly to prevent dirt from getting into the bearings and to prevent the inner races from falling out.

3. Remove the hub from the steering knuckle (see…

4. If the steering knuckle is worn or damaged, replace it (Chapter 9).

5. Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the seal from the hub to avoid scratching or damaging the seal housing; when installing, use a new one.

6. Knock the outer bearing outer race out of the hub using a hammer and a suitable punch.

7. Knock the outer ring of the inner bearing out of the hub.

8. Thoroughly clean the hub from dirt and grease, remove any burrs or irregularities that could interfere with assembly. Check the wheel bolt threads for cracks, wear or damage, and replace the hub if necessary.

Installation

9. When reassembling, fill the new bearings with good quality lithium grease. To facilitate installation, apply a thin layer of grease to the outer bearing races and the hub bore. Note that both bearings should be installed with the marked surface facing out.

10. Using the outer edge of the hub as a support, press the outer race of the new inner bearing into the hub until it rests against the flange.

11. Then, using the inner edge of the hub as a support, press the outer ring of the new outer bearing into it.

The original can be viewed on SKODABOOK.RU

12. Press the new seal into the hub, making sure that its sealing lips are facing outward (to bearings). Apply a small amount of grease to the lips of the seal; wipe off excess grease.

13. Install the hub, washer and nut onto the steering knuckle (see photo).

14. Install the brake drum (Section 9).

15. Adjust the bearing and install the wheel as described in Section 1 (see photo).
