23. Check that the wheels are securely fastened, remove the wheel cap (if available), then loosen the nuts or bolts in turn a quarter of a turn, then tighten them again with the tightening torque specified specifications. Finally, install the cap.
24. Genuine tires are equipped with tread wear indicator strips that will appear when the tread depth is approximately 1.6mm. Tread wear can be checked with a simple device (photo).
25. Check for abnormal tread wear, referring to Fig. 1.2. Tread wear in the form of flat spots or on one side more than on the other is caused by imbalance and or incorrect alignment of the front wheels. If any of these conditions are noted, correct the cause as soon as possible.
26. Overall tire wear is greatly influenced by driving style. Tire rotation is a way of adjusting tire wear.
27. Front tires may wear unevenly due to wheel misalignment. The front wheels must always be aligned correctly according to the data provided by the vehicle manufacturer (Section 10).
28. Check tires regularly for cuts or bulges, especially on the sidewalls. Remove any stuck nails or stones from the tread. If the tire begins to release air after removing the nail, reinsert the nail to mark the puncture and contact a tire repair technician. Do not drive with the tire in this condition. If there is any doubt about the possible consequences due to the damage found, consult your dealer.
29. Check your tire pressure regularly and keep it at the correct level. The check should be carried out with cold tires and not immediately after driving the vehicle (photo). If the pressure is checked on hot tires, it will be inaccurate due to the expansion of the air due to heat. Never lower the pressure to the cold tire pressure.
30. Insufficient pressure can cause the tire to overheat due to excessive deformation of its body, and the tread will not properly rest on the road surface. As a result, traction will decrease and wear will increase, not to mention the existing danger of tire explosion.
31. Inflating a tire will cause rapid wear of the center tread and reduced traction, a rougher ride and a risk of tire explosion.
32. Wheels and tires must be balanced to avoid excessive wear.
33. You can balance the wheels on the car or separately. If the wheels are balanced on the car, it is necessary to note the location of the wheel so that after removing it, install it in its original position.
