Removal and installation brake shoes — drum brakes (Skoda Fabia 5J)

Remove the wheel. Remove the brake drum retaining screw. Release the brake by sliding the wedge through the hole for the brake drum fixing screw with a screwdriver in an upward direction. Remove the brake drum. Remove the spring plate with the compression spring.

Using a screwdriver, remove the brake pads in the direction of the arrow from the lower support. Unhook the lower end of the return spring. Unhook the parking brake cable from its locked position. Carefully remove the brake pads between the wheel hub and the brake caliper (shield).

Clamp the brake shoe in a vice. Remove the wedge extension spring "1" from wedge "2". Using hook "A", remove the upper return spring "3".

Using hook "A", unhook the brake shoe tension spring "1". Remove the release lever "2" and wedge "3" from the brake shoe.

Installation

The contact area of the expansion lever should be lubricated with solid plastic grease -G 000 650-. After hooking the brake shoe tension spring "1" into the brake shoe "2", insert the brake shoe into the expansion lever "3".

Hook the brake shoe tension spring "1" using hook "A" into the release lever "2". Install the wedge.

The contact area of the release lever should be lubricated with solid plastic grease -G 000 650-. Insert the brake shoe with the brake lever into the release lever. Using hook "A", install the upper return spring "3". Install the wedge extension spring "1" from wedge "2". Carefully install the brake pads between the wheel hub and the brake caliper (shield).

Place the brake pads on the wheel brake cylinder pistons. Attach the parking brake cable to the brake lever. Lubricate the contact areas of the lower return spring and the brake pads with solid plastic grease -G 000 650-. After placing the lower end of the return spring, move the brake pad to the lower support surface. Install the compression spring with the spring plate. Install the brake drum. Press the brake pedal firmly with your foot once to bring the rear wheel brake mechanism into the adjusted position. Adjust the parking brake lever. Install the wheel.
