1.Install the clamps on the spring 31 (see figureRear suspension parts with drum brakes) the rear suspension from the side of the shock absorber being removed and compress the spring slightly. If there is no tie, the spring can be tied in a compressed state with strong wire.

2. Unscrew bolt 23 of the lower shock absorber mount, holding nut 22 from turning with another wrench. Remove bolt 23.

3. Unscrew the two bolts 33 of the upper shock absorber mount.

4. Remove shock absorber 34 from the vehicle.

5. Remove holder 35 from the shock absorber.

6. Make sure that the rubber bushing of the lower hinge does not rotate in the shock absorber eye, and that its spacer sleeve does not move when pressed.

7. Check the operation of the shock absorber by moving its rod in both directions until it stops. The piston rod must move smoothly, without sticking or dips, and the force of the rebound stroke must be significantly higher than the force of the compression stroke.

8. Pay attention to the markings on the shock absorber. Install a new shock absorber with the same markings (the same manufacturer). If both shock absorbers are replaced, their markings must be the same.

9. Install the shock absorber in reverse order. In this case, replace bolt 23 with nut 22 of the lower mount and bolts 33 of the upper shock absorber mount with new ones. The head of bolt 23 of the lower mount must be directed towards the inside of the vehicle during installation. Perform final tightening of bolt 23 with the vehicle standing on the ground.
