Important! Both rear suspension springs must be of the same stiffness group and must be replaced as a set on both sides of the rear suspension. Spring stiffness groups are marked with paint. Install a new spring with the same markings as the old one. If the markings on the old spring are not visible, consult a Skoda service station.

1. Install the clamps on the spring 31 to be removed (see figure Rear suspension parts with drum brakes) and squeeze it a little. If there is no tie, the spring can be tied in a compressed state with strong wire.

2. Unscrew bolt 23 of the lower shock absorber mount, holding nut 22 from turning with another wrench. Remove bolt 23, thereby disconnecting the lower end of the shock absorber.

3. Raise the rear of the vehicle on the side of the spring being replaced until the wheel is off the ground and place the body on a secure support.

4. By pressing down the arm of the rear suspension beam 18 within the elastic limits of the rubber-metal support 17, remove the spring from the car.

5. Carefully release the spring by removing the ties from it.

6. Remove the upper 32 and lower 27 gaskets, if they remain on the body, respectively (in the wheel niche) and on the rear suspension beam.

7. Replace gaskets 27 and 32 that are severely deformed or have lost elasticity.

8. Inspect the removed spring. If the spring coils are deformed, cracked, or have signs of contact, replace the spring.

9. If necessary, restore the damaged varnish coating of the spring.

10. Before installing the spring, the upper and lower gaskets on it must be positioned so that the ends of the outermost turns are in the recesses of the gaskets; secure the gaskets with insulating tape or adhesive tape.

11. Compress the spring with clamps and install it on the car in reverse order. In this case, replace bolt 23 and nut 22 of the lower shock absorber mount with new ones. The head of the lower mount bolt must face towards the inside of the vehicle during installation. Perform final tightening of bolt 23 with the vehicle standing on the ground. The tightening torque of the lower shock absorber mounting bolt is 40 Nm, then tighten it another 90°.
