1 – vacuum pump; 2 – connecting pipe; 3 – recirculation valve; 4 – valve membrane

Checking the valve

1. Remove the upper engine cover (see subsection 2.1).

2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from valve fitting 3 (see figure Details of the recirculation system of a 1.9 L, 47 kW diesel engine) recirculation systems.

3. Connect to valve fitting 3 (see figure Details of the recirculation system of a 1.9 L, 47 kW diesel engine) vacuum pump 1 (see figure Checking the EGR valve of a 1.9L, 47 kW diesel engine).

4. Use a pump to create a vacuum in the valve. The 4th valve membrane should move upwards (you can check it by touching it with your fingers at the bottom of the valve), and after disconnecting the vacuum pump, the membrane should return to its original position (can be identified by a clear sound). Otherwise, the valve is faulty and must be replaced.

Removal and installation of recirculation system components

1. Remove the upper engine cover (see subsection 2.1).

2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from valve fitting 3 (see figure Details of the recirculation system of a 1.9 L, 47 kW diesel engine) recirculation systems.

3. Unscrew the two bolts 4 securing the valve 3 of the recirculation system to the intake pipe 1 of the engine.

4. Unscrew the clamp bolt 6 of the clamp 5 and remove the valve 3 of the recirculation system from the connecting pipe 8.

5. To remove the connecting pipe 8, unscrew the two nuts 7 that secure it to the exhaust manifold.

6. Replace gaskets 2 regardless of their condition.

7. Install the EGR system components in reverse order. Replace nuts 7 securing the connecting pipe to the exhaust manifold with new ones.
