Cooling system malfunctions (Skoda Favorit)

Overheating

• Insufficient amount of coolant in the system (Section 1).
• Thermostat is faulty (Section 3).
• Radiator fins are blocked or grille is obstructed (Section 1 or 3).
• The electric fan or thermal switch is faulty (Section 3).
• The radiator cap is damaged (Section 1).
• The drive belt of the cooling system pump is worn or its tension is incorrectly adjusted (Section 1).
• Incorrect setting of ignition timing (Section 1).
• Inaccurate coolant temperature gauge sensor (Section 3).
• Air lock in the cooling system (Section 1).

Hypothermia

• Thermostat is faulty (Section 3).
• Inaccurate coolant temperature gauge sensor (Section 3).

External coolant leak

• The hoses are damaged or not tightly connected (Section 1).
• Leak from the radiator core or from the heater matrix (Section 1 or 3).
• The radiator cap is damaged (Section 1).
• Leak through the seal of the cooling system pump (Section 3).
• Boiling due to overheating (Section 3).
• Leakage through the plugs in the cylinder block (Section 2).

Internal coolant leak

• Cylinder head gasket leak (Section 2).
• Cracked cylinder head or cylinder bore (Section 2).

Corrosion

• Infrequent draining of fluid and flushing of the system (Section 1).
• The wrong type of antifreeze is used (Section 1).
