Removing
1. The parking brake actuating cable consists of two separate main sections, right and left, directly connecting the rear wheel brakes to the parking brake control lever. Each of the sections can be removed and replaced individually.
2. In order to provide access to the parking brake control lever, remove the rear section of the center console. On models without a console, remove the decorative lever cover.
3. Loosen the lock and adjusting nuts and release the front end of the cable to be removed from the arm equalizer plate.
4. Chock the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Remove the corresponding rear wheel.
5. Remove the appropriate brake drum (see Section Removal, check of a condition and installation of drums of brake mechanisms of back wheels).
6. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to release the parking brake actuator lever from the rear of the brake shoe. Disconnect the cable from the lever and thread its tip through the hole in the brake shield.
7. Moving along the cable, release it from the intermediate clamps and bandages. Try to remember the route of laying the cable. Replace the clips damaged during the removal of the cable.
Installation
Installation is in the reverse order. Follow the correct laying of the cable and the reliability of its fastening in all the provided clamps and bandages. Before installing the rear section of the center console / decorative lever cover, adjust the parking brake actuator (see Section Parking brake adjustment).
