Removal

1. The parking brake drive cable consists of two separate main sections: right and left, directly connecting the rear wheel brake mechanisms to the parking brake control lever. Each section can be removed and replaced individually.

2. To gain access to the parking brake control lever, remove the rear section of the center console. On models without a console, remove the lever trim cover.

3. Loosen the locking and adjusting nuts and release the front end of the cable to be removed from the equalizer plate of the lever.

4. Support the front wheels with chocks, then jack up the rear of the car and place it on stands. Remove the corresponding rear wheel.

5. Remove the drum of the corresponding brake mechanism (see section Removal, condition check and installation of rear wheel brake drums).

6. Using a flat-head screwdriver, release the parking brake actuator lever from the rear of the brake shoe. Disconnect the cable from the lever and thread its end through the hole in the brake shield.

7. Moving along the cable, release it from the intermediate clamps and bandages. Try to remember the route of the cable. Replace the clamps damaged during the process of removing the cable.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Ensure that the cable is routed correctly and securely fastened to all the provided clamps and bandages. Before installing the rear section of the center console/trim lever cover, adjust the parking brake drive (see section Adjusting the parking brake).
