Note. To make the adjustment, you will need a steelyard.
1. Normally, the tension of the parking brake drive cable is maintained in the norm due to the action of automatic regulators of the drum brake mechanisms of the rear wheels of the car. From time to time it is necessary to make additional individual adjustments in order to compensate for cable pull. Adjustment should only be made when the brake shoes, drums, cables, or parking brake lever are removed.
2. Firmly depressing the foot brake, make sure that the self-adjusting mechanism of the rear brake mechanisms is in good condition.
3. The correct adjustment of the parking brake drive is checked by the number of clicks of the ratchet of the control lever when the latter is cocked with a force of about 100÷140 N (10÷14 kg). Release the lever completely, then connect the steelyard to its central part and pull the handle of the latter with the specified force - the lever should cock only two clicks of the ratchet lever axis, which guarantees uniform application of the braking force to both rear wheels.
4. To carry out the adjustment, remove the rear section of the center console, thus providing the necessary access to the lever. If the console is not provided by the vehicle design, release the latches and remove the lever cover.
5. Release the lever, then loosen the locknuts of both drive cables on the equalizer plate by the same number of turns. If the plate is not at right angles to the lever, this situation should also be corrected during the adjustment process by uneven release of the locknuts. Crank the lever several times to the stop, then repeat the check for correctness of the adjustment made.
6. Once both drive cables are properly tensioned, secure the adjusting nuts with lock nuts. Make sure both rear wheels turn freely when the lever is fully released, then reinstall the center console/decorative lever cover.
