Note: You will need a spring balance to perform the adjustment.
1. Usually, the tension of the parking brake drive cable is maintained at the norm due to the action of automatic regulators of the drum brake mechanisms of the rear wheels of the car. From time to time, it is necessary to make additional individual adjustments in order to compensate for the stretching of the cable. Adjustment should be made only when removing the brake shoes, drums, cables or the parking brake drive lever.
2. Firmly press the foot brake and check that the rear brake self-adjusting mechanism is in good condition.
3. The correct adjustment of the parking brake drive is checked by the number of clicks of the control lever ratchet when the latter is cocked with a force of about 100-140 N (10-14 kg). Release the lever completely, then connect a spring balance to its central part and pull the handle of the latter with the specified force - the lever should be cocked only two clicks of the ratchet mechanism. It is important that the equalizer plate on the lever, to which the two drive cables are connected, remains located at a right angle to the lever axis, which ensures uniform application of the braking force to both rear wheels.
4. To make the adjustment, remove the rear section of the center console, thereby providing the necessary access to the lever. If the console is not provided by the design of the car, release the clamps and remove the lever cover.
5. Release the lever, then loosen the locknuts of both drive cables on the equalizer plate by the same number of turns. If the plate is not at a right angle to the lever, this situation should also be corrected during the adjustment process by unevenly loosening the locknuts. Cock the lever several times until it stops, then recheck the correctness of the adjustment.

6. Once both drive cables are properly tensioned, secure the adjusting nuts with the lock nuts. Make sure both rear wheels rotate freely when the lever is fully released, then reinstall the center console/lever trim cover.
