Position of the adjusting bolt in the steering gear housing

1. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely.
2. Turn the steering wheel sharply in one direction and the other by approximately 30° – an unacceptable gap can be determined by a knocking sound heard inside the car.
3. If an unacceptable gap is detected, the assistant should carefully screw in the adjusting bolt 1 (see figure Position of the adjusting bolt in the steering gear housing) into the steering gear housing until the knocking noise heard in the cabin is eliminated.
4. Take a test drive. After turning a corner or when parking the vehicle, the steering wheel should automatically and smoothly return to the position corresponding to the straight-ahead movement of the vehicle. Otherwise, adjust the gap again.
5. Lock the adjusting bolt by evenly punching in three places on the end of the steering gear housing.
